Or like all TRUE computer nerds, have no fewer than 5 spare keyboards, at least one of which must be the old clunky versions with the huge plugs and curled cords

Yeah I worked for a month (@ $20 CDN/hr), got my own comp, now nobody bothers me. That and the fact that I'm the only person in my house that can fix my mom's office computer when it screws up, so she knows that if she pisses me off I can just not fix it, or cause it to need fixing in the first place

Ok i got **** at my old computer it was utter poop so here i am a 16 year old. So i decided to get a job and work my arse off for 6 months so i can purchase a new computer to my likings. After i bought my computer my mom gave away the old computer to my brother for college. and she demanded that my new computer was the "families" computer now even though i paid for it.

so im like ok WTH is this poop. so i grudgingly agreed since she said she would take away my internet. Now i got cable internet that i pay for and im 16. And im still kicked off the computer when my sister wants to check her email. They say you play games all day and thats not cool at all your a loser.

After 1 day though i got really **** off about how i was getting kicked off the computer especially like 1 minute before cal matches and during scrims so i started yelling at my mom. She said that its her house and her electricity. So i tried to put a password on my computer she got uber **** and like slapped me like 1000000 times. so i grudingly took it off after she had unplugged my computer 5 times every time i turned it on.

SO WAHT SHOULD I DO NOW PAY FOR ELECTRICITY?!?!?!? PAY RENT!?!?!?!? EVEN THOUGH I AM 16 AND MAKE 6.25 AN HOUR?!?!?!?

That is just plain disgusting. WTH is wrong with your parents. . Your best bet is to keep trying to move up in the job market and save money for another computer. Sounds like tough work, but hard work is always a powerful weapon.

When my mother tries to do stuff like this I turn the tables on her, and hit every base before she can say a damned thing. Take out the trash? Yes. Clean the dishes? Too late mother. Laundry? Old news. Grades? Owned.

Now I am getting a uber high paying job so that the next time she denies me money, I can laugh in her face. My spite knows no end, and if you play the game correctly, which you have done well so far, you should be fine. Bad parenting is a scary thing, but if you become the best child you can be and you do it in a way that you make sure they know how little you care for them, like I am, then it is always a knockout. Hell, works on my dad every time.

I never wanted to be a jerk of a son, but it is amazing how easy it is to be one by being such a damn good kid.

So very true.

To me, it seems sort of different to have parents act like this. My own parents probably don't care too much how long I stay up or use the computer for. Of course, it kind of helps when they can't distinguish when I'm doing useful work, as opposed to the other kind.

Bingo. The only reason I can be here right now is because I am also setting up a calendar for my PDA, so I can transfer everything I have on my written calendar onto the virtual one. If it wasn't for the massive amount of work I end up doing on my computer, including computing personal spending on spreadsheets and such, I would get very few chances to be here.

lawsuit?

um, yeah... i wouldnt take that **** man.

law suit, legal action, restraining order, moving out, etc, these are all obscenely extreme approaches

just do stuff to show them that you cant be treated like ****, that you have rights too and they better respect it.

1) put the password back on the computer, and put it back in your room. tell them you're willing to put together a crappy 300mhz computer if they want a family computer [if you have the spare parts, or just say you can buy some off your friends]. be honest here, and remind them again that you have offered to help them make a family computer.

2) take control of all your possessions.. hell, even put a lock on your door if need be, but make sure that if YOU arent using it, NOBODY is. its YOURS. this means cable internet, computers, etc.. make sure they cant just take it and use it for their own good.

3) instantly and without condition withdraw any of your previous 'appeasement' [remember hitler, anybody?] agreements. dont give them any mercy, they didnt show you any.

4) WEATHER THE STORM. this is the most important.. when you make a stand, they will completely go bonkers, threats, punishments, even physical violence [not allowed, BTW. not just from a legal standpoint, but your attitude is that youre not going to take any **** from them], and they will treat you like crap, hey they may even make you feel guilty for them. but stick through it, be a complete hardarse stubborn mule, because while i wouldnt recommend this for other people who are just being spoilt, your situation is completely bias towards your mother [and family] - they are treating you like an exploited foreign exchange student slave.. an adopted child used for their purposes alone. so just weather the storm... let them know your conditions [this is MINE. i dont care about your bloody electricity, we can talk about that if you want, but this is MINE.]

now, about electricity, housing, clothes, etc: remind them that they are your legal [and moral] guardians [parents]. they are forced by law [and by moral obligation, if they even have any] to provide at LEAST basic living conditions - shelter, food, clothing. the things you bought are yours. if they want to be hardarses [well you can have your bloody computer, but youre not using OUR electricity] then say "fine". and use your computer at a lan, etc. a few points to mention, though..

- offer them SOME conditions, so you are not the one coming off as a monster. offer to help them build a secondary computer [not out of your money] as a replacement for your temporary loan of your computer.
- do not shout, argue, threaten, etc.. only state your points, stick with them, do not waver at ALL.. when the topic of computer/internet/etc is not being brought up, then be your normal civil self.. or even more so.
- when they threaten [or even come through] with anything.. "no money, no food, no clothes, no free time, i will put you in boarding school, up for adoption, effective house arrest".. stick with it. do not "accept" these terms, but show that you are unwavering in your conviction.. remind them that they are being ridiculous, but whatever they do, you will not waver. if you feel yourself thinking about it.. remember: there are people who say "well, i can accept the lower standard of living, i can accept these shortcomings.. i mean, after all, they are so good to me most of the time, they dont really have to do this, and besides, without it, what have i got?" ... these people remain slaves, and sweatshop workers..

whatever the extremes they take, show them that your convictions remain higher than theirs.

when you make your move, do it, but announce to whoever is concerned what you are doing [after you do it] and what is going to be done [i.e "im locking my computer, and im moving it into my room [even if you already have ], the computer is mine, i paid for it. if you want a family computer, i can help you assemble another one from spare parts."]

good luck.. anybody who this applies to.

Ah yes parents, the following things happened to me when my parents want me to quit using my computer:

-Just pull the plug of the switch which I'm connected too.
-Turn off the electricity in the whole upper section of the house (my room included)
-Steal the powercords off my pc, and don't notice I borrow some from friends of me.
-When I've been gaming until late in the night, and I go sleep until midday next day, they just wake me up REALLY early in the morning O.o

But okay, I admit, I should be more social, and I shouldn't shout at my parents when I'm pulled from a game of NS when I've gotta eat or do other stuff....

Be very careful, I ended up on the street for awhile after an argument over washing up (it seriously wasn't my turn, I'd done it a billion times and then my siblings would claim the hardwork as theirs).

Genius.

But when you do this, make sure you come out to be the bigger man here. Weathering the storm will be hard, but doing so AND maintaining basic civility is 10x worse. You have to be really prepared and determined to do this, but it is quite possible and can be really effective.

The important thing is to take the necessary precautions.

Idiocy comes in many forms my friend, in lots of different forms.

Well, anyway, I've never really had an incident like this ever. Even if my parents force me to, they don't take away or break stuff.

Bad luck on kuperaye's side I guess. Would've been better if you kept the old computer for the rest of the family and keep that brand new shiny one to yourself. Just follow eediot's advice, and you should come out on top. Just be careful though.
