but theres one thing its missing.....
a better soundtrack! I mean as much as I love the strange alien wierd music score.... it just doesn't do it for ya, I mean what makes lord of the rings, star wars, matrix, any good movie a good movie (besides millions of dollars in funding) great music!

1- I think that there should be more music in game , some people say its distracting but you could turn it off if you wanted, I think it'd add to the NS feel

2- music should react to the gameplay, if your an alien and all the sudden your hive's being sieged there should be some intense action music to set the mood for your fighitng back, or if you friend gets devoured by an onos there should be some herios ballad played as you run down that onos to save your friend

3- it should have booth "alien" sounding music and "marine sounding" music like the aliens would be all wierd sounding chords and effects, while the marines would be really electric guitar solo intense music ....

I dunno... I just wnated to get that off my chest, thats all

It sounds cool, it sounds intense, but the last thing you want when a skulk is hunting you if music.
  • AvengerXAvengerX Join Date: 2004-03-20 Member: 27459Banned
thats true, so in competitive play I'd turn it off, but when I'm just getting in the NS zone pubbing it up I'd love to have some killer music

Winamp is your friend. I guess its not the same as what you described, but I find playing with any music at all adds to the game(True with any game I play). Since there are more important things that will probably never even get addressed in this game, this is the only alternative, but then again you probably already knew that.

I turned my music off ages ago so I could actually hear those nasty skulks

The music was good but I cant hear much if theres alot goin on so every little bit helps me.

I'd like to have trigger music, it should only be low on volume as I rely nearly only on sound when playing and only for important events, like hive or cc under attack.

If you're playing seriuosly is better not to have music to hear the enemy coming. But if you're playing just a bit for fun (not in a clan match or similar) it's very fun to have a good music that matches with NS atmosphere. I have the entire 'Aliens' OST in mp3 copied into ns\music folder. And you get really scared at times when you're surprised by a skulk while hearing some of the tracks And also its quite fun attacking the enemy hive/base while listening some others. The problem is almost never the music and the "moment" match... but when it happends its great.

I suppose it can be done a metamod plugin or something that catches "hive under attack" and other similar events and triggers a music change.

Theres also a cvar that tells NS how often to play music from the music (or mp3, I cant remember) folder.

I tried commanding with Bach and Haydn playing in the backround with most of the voicecomm screamers muted. It was fun and relaxing at the same time.

So if i change it, it will play more or less often? Or does it depend on the server?

Also I've heard of a program (not the VC music thing) that lets you change songs in winamp when you are playing. Is there such a thing? If so where can i get it, because i wouldnt mind playing music and then when it gets serious, i pause the music, kill some guys and then start playing the song again.

Then just download good background music. Prefably I like the FF10 otherworld song its good to pump the adrenaline while being a skulk and hearing heavy rock

Or stuff from evangelion, orchestrated siphonys, but hey, that might not be your thing

It's client side. I can't find the name of the cvar. But if you go to
    customize->advanced->page2
you can put it in there. You can also select a different mp3 folder there. Oh, and its ...\nsp\music\

And if that winamp thing exist, plz post where to get it. I like the idea too

BTW, what I said about the metamod plugin is crap. Metamod plugins are server side and we would need some kind of client side thing

That would be winamp.com Just run it in the background.

But you can't pause it and then resume it without using ALT+TAB. And we all know what usually happends when you do that: Bye-bye to all sound

The latest version of Winamp allows you to bind global keys to any of it's functions. I have F8-11 bound to skip, pause, winamp volume up and winamp volume down. It's pretty damn cool.

Barber's Agnus Dei (or Adagio for Strings, same song basically, one is vocal, other is strings) while either playing as Aliens or fighting a losing battle as 'rines. Absolutely marvellous.

NS is a game, not a movie....I want to play a good game, not listen to music. You know the good players will shut it off, and it just gives new players an excuse for not listening.
  • AvengerXAvengerX Join Date: 2004-03-20 Member: 27459Banned
I dunno sky I think the good players woul be able to listen to some nice music and be able to kick butt playin NS, I know my brain doesn't have a problem with it

Y'know, a triggered musical theme would be nice for NS2 if/when it comes out. Something for the Devs to keep in mind when making that.

This thread has got me thinking, though. I'm going to make an Alien and Marine WinAmp playlist.

Thanks to thread, I've changed ambience sound of power silo hive in ns_nothing to Megadeath's Symphony of destruction.
