I have been having serious trouble installing and running NS through WON. I run and use all of my other Half-Life games easily using this method and I don't like how Steam runs. Every time I try to install NS it keeps installing to valve/steam and not on my Half-Life programs. Is there anything I can do to install NS directly into Half-Life?<!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I installed steam ealier and uninstalled it with some difficulty, if that means anything, and my Technical specs are:22.9Gig. left, 383 MB ram, About a Pent. ll, Windows 98 second edition. IF you need more, post whatever you need and I'll try and get it.

how to install NS v3.0 on won (a stupid thing, but if you want to feel free)
Install atleast Beta 1 in steam, then move the folder (nsp) to your won dir and patch that.
note, there are 5 4a servers out there (last I checked, the # could have changed)
just get steam set up. You will have to sooner or latter (when WON is taken down)

Check the general server support forum for a couple of post related to this issue. And enjoy playing NS3 on WON. Although there are far more servers running NS2.01 than NS3beta4a over won. I have only seen 2 using The All Seeing Eye.
You should download also NS2.0 if you plan to play over WON. Since NS2.0 folder is called "ns" and NS3.xx folder is called "nsp" you can have both installed and working as if they were 2 different mods.
[flame]I hate Steam. I think its the biggest mistake valve has ever made cos its a crappy program full of bugs and serious errors (just check the steam forums and see it yourself). And I also think NS team should have made an installer that works both for steam and won like a lot of other mod have done). [/flame]
NS HAS to be developed for only one b/c of the amount of hacking that has been done to the HL engine to get things to work.
Also, if things were developed for both WON and Steam at the same time it would take about double the time (bug stomping takes a LONG time)

I understand that NS is now focusing on steam and that NS3 over won can be buggy or whatever, but just adding that to the install program is quite easy. Just say you're not giving tech support to NS3 over won and its done.

it really isn't that easy...
NS isn't as straight forward as most mods as thansal pointed out - a lot of the code is extremely intricate to get it to work with the HL engine (remember this engine is some 5-6 years old now)
there have been countless posts over the last few months on how to get NS working on WON
but Flayra (as I have seen said by various people) does not like putting out bad programs, thus why NS officaly is not supported on WON.
well anyway im just typing to say i figured out 3.0+ doesnt work on won, you have to use the "classic" NS v 2.0beta

there is a 2.0 steam beta (though I didn't know there were still links to that any where), and you would not want to install that on a WON install of HL any way.
just make sure you are refering to the proper things.
oh, and 3.0 will run on won (it might give wierd errors, but it will run if you simply move the dirs correctly/run the patches correctly)
you are speaking of the closed beta installer (thus making you either an exVet or a Constie(ats me!), and if you are not, shame shame shame)
Those files will do nothing for you now, as no one has the server files for those (as they were never publicly released).
you can delete them, or save them for sentimental value.
I'm figuring since you know so much(not sarcasticly), how do I fix the crosshair problem in 2.0? also, my sound is lagging, BAD tell me if you can fix this.
Wait, you can get 3 4a beta in WON?!
HOW? it refuses to work for me! It won't let me just "copy" it over, the game won't recognize it as a custom game and therefore won;t let me play.
