Brand new..
Okay, I have a new mouse, which is named in the title. I am having a issue in NS where in laggy situations the mouse will often suddenly lose nearly all sensitivity for a second or two, and it makes it extremely difficult to aim. I need to know if anyone has experience similar issues and/or if there is a way to fix it.

what are your normal fps versus your fps is heavy situations. Sure youre not hitting the net button when you panic?
• HydraHydra Join Date: 2003-06-14 Member: 17366Members, Reinforced - Shadow
Erm, net button like one of the extra buttons? No, I am sure I am not, I have had to use multibutton mice a lot so I am used to making sure I do not accidentally do this. Also, my normal fps is 50ish and goes down to 10 in extreme cases. I have never had a similar issue with my old mouse that is now broken, and I have found it occurs in other games as well. I think it might have something to do with the mouse needing more BUS speed? I just throwing random stuff out here hoping to spark ideas to fix it. Also, I have tried removing its drivers, reinstalling my old ones, deleting ALL drivers and rebooting.

A few months ago (my MX700 was brand new) I installed the Logitech Driver and I had a few problems with it.
So... is the MouseDriver installed?
When yes, try to delete it
=)

Yes, I have tried uninstalling the drivers, but actually I think I will try again, my old mouse feels so fugly after using my new one. I may not have rebooted, or it may not be a mouse issue, which is why I am trying my old mouse again to see.

one word-mouse pad!

i have the mx500, which is almost identical. Logitech's mx series are extremely picky-there super sensitive to what kinda surface you use. get a smooth mouse padf, preferrably either one solid color or one with some sort of stuff baked in it. My freind uses these mousepads, which work perfect i use just a plain one with mine and get no probs.

before i was using it on my reg wood serfuace, and it would lose the tracking for a couple of seconds. (causing me to die that skulk i was trying to get)

hope that helps!

EDIT-Deleted the quote, made my reply too long

you aren't using it with a ps/2 adapter are you
• HydraHydra Join Date: 2003-06-14 Member: 17366Members, Reinforced - Shadow
I am using a blue mousepad that does not have a lot of contrast. I use a ps/2 adapter, but I tried without it and it did not make a noticable difference. Well thanks for the help, and if anyone can think of anything let me know.

PS/2 has a tendency to drop its mouse rate way down if CPU usage is heavy, and considering that you're heavily CPU limited when you play NS with your 900 MHz PIII, I would have been sure it was the PS/2... (USB keeps way steady rate) but since you said you tried it already, I'll have to think of something else.

Drops down to 10 fps? Sure it's not just that low framerate that's giving the appearance of mouse jumpiness? Maybe explain again what effects you're seeing... you mean you lose sensitivity as in you can't aim.. or as in you're basically locked to a certain view angle under low fps situations?

Using the MX700 and I get the same problem almost. It goes super sensitive on me for some reason. Quit, restart and all is good.

Wierd!

Well, that may be the case juice, I might need to try a bit more extensive usb test. It is a bit tricky to describe it, It is very possible it actually freezes for a second because that is what it feels like. It suddenly doesn't work for a few seconds, and it acts sluggish around these times as well, the net result being I find it extremely difficult with fast moving targets and such. I am going to try using the usb port again, but do you think that I would need to reboot for the mouse to work properly after changing it over to the usb?
Also, I think the part I highlighted basically hits on what is happening, besides general sluggish behaviour, but that might be me or just optical mice in general.
