My guess is that either

a) Your friend is lying
b) Your friend was welding a TF or RT while it was being upgraded, and when the electrification upgrade had finially finished, he thought that he had done it.

HAHAHAHAHA! :D That's the funniest piece of bogus information I've ever heard. It's not anybody's fault someone told you this, I can imagine how he would come up with that conclusion if he was the type who just starts playing games without reading the manuals.

Things only electrify if the commander spends 30 res to electrify it. What probably happened is that your buddy was welding an RT while the commander was buying electricity for it.

Actually, there's a plugin that allows you to electrify Infantry Portals if you weld them. Only seen it on one server though, so in general, no, you cant make stuff glow by welding it.

It used to be in the DG server (the plugin). It does bad things for both the marines and kharaa, however. The kharaa face the obvious mass of electricity that has never been payed for... except the marines are pretty unlikely to get anywhere when everybody hangs around and welds stuff. No offense makes it really hard to win as well, so you'll just hang around until bile comes to you.

edit: btw, it shows a progress bar while you weld the structure. No progress bar = you're wasting your time.

OMG..i went on a server once that had that plugin and the whole marine team spent like 5 minutes welding every strusture to electrify it. it took forever.

is that how you want to spend your game welding..doenst seem fun to me..and yes it does make it impossible to win .as the aliens have the entire map by the time your done.

i played a server where welders electrified the ips... i thought it was kinda cheap as the aliens didnt have anything similar for their hives, it was just another advantage for the rines

I quess your friend has been playing in German server, becouse most of them has this plugin. That you can electrify the RT:s by welding them, so this isn't total bocus infromation. But normal server, no, you can't electrify it by welding...

Alot of servers do this in defense to umbra coming out of RT's. (Plugin also)

It's a server MOD anyone that still playes 2.0 go to BLOOD$UCKERS and you'll see mods: eWeld Weld IP's and Turret factory's to electrify them. <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' />
