Playstation 2 Online Games

<div class="IPBDescription">are there any good ones?</div>While I will definately have a Playstation 2 by the time Metal Gear Solid 3 comes out, <a href='http://www.1up.com/article2/0,2053,1596791,00.asp' target='_blank'>this little thing of pwnage</a> along with the new $150 price has got me thinking I'll just go ahead and get one early. I also noticed the ps2 bundle that comes w/ the broadband adapter is the same freakin price as the bundle without.

So I figured hey since this thingy can read movies from over the network, that'll be ultra pwn. And so then I was thinking as long as I have a PS2 hooked up to the network and, in conjunction, the internet, why not see if there are any good PS2 online games, as those are getting more and more popular.

So to anybody in the know, what is the situation w/ online gaming on PS2? Any good games worth playing online? Also, is there X-Box live equivilant service where there is a monthly fee, or is it all free (like most PC multiplayer games)?

    it is free, and socom 2 is awesome. but you need a headset to have the most fun

    Amplitude and Frequency kick much butt, and they're online-available... IIRC, you can have up to 8 players, make your own remixed tracks, and of course, mock people with your Freq. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> Addictive as hell once you get past the (short, sharp) learning curve.

    Its free but im not sure about the eq games they might charge u for them but there not that good except for champions(which is free im sure of)

    Meh, there aren't many PS2 games that can rival the PC in sheer onlinge goodness. SOCOM is the requisite Counterstrike ripoff, but it DOES have dancing.

    all online games on ps2 are free, cept for the mmorpgs like eq and ff11

    There is no real equivalent to Xbox Live on the PS2, unfortunately. It's all game-specific, and mostly no monthly fees.

    sigh you have a PC why play PS2 online its just dont make sense as for socom the AI retarded there like headless chikens and onlines no better jsut replace AI with the word French and you get the picture in my eyes the only way to describe socom is "when Ghost Recon rip off go wrong"

    RE: Outbreak, but then again you hate all RE games. Give it a try anyhow, the controls (if that's your main annoyance) have changed to MGS style and it looks like a world of online fun.

    the ps2 headset works on computer. just plug it into the usb. i used it a couple times, but i dont anymore because the one i got is only 1 headphone, so no stereo sound.
