Ns V 1.04 For Steam Help Wanted.

<div class="IPBDescription">It can be done.</div> We all know the huge number of people who want to either go back to the days of 1.04 or have (insert old system here) implimented again. So why don't we all get together and work on it. A group of Counter Strike players have done the same thing by making CS 1.3 for steam. <a href='http://www.cs13mod.com/' target='_blank'>http://www.cs13mod.com/</a>

There are a great many talented people here, just look in the NS customization forum. And I would like to think that the Devs would help support this project with information given that the group wouldn't be "stealing" the game from them.

So really I'm asking who would be willing to help given the permission of the Dev Team.

does anyone even have 1.04 won still?
I like to have it. Sure, 3.0 is the game to play, but a 1.04 match now and then for the fun of old times is still great.

Not to shoot you down, and I am not being mean...just shedding some light on the subject.

Ok...looking at status, I show about 81k players on CS and CS:CZ...that is the most current version. CS and CS:CZ probably average about 1 million unique players a month, give or take 10%...

Currently, there are 11, notice that is eleven, not eleven K, 11 people playing 1.3.

So now lets take a look at NS, we get about 21,000 unique players a month, give or take, and that is a rough estimate. Compared to CS we are a very small community, so doing this would almost be a waste of time.

Just trying to shed some light on the numerical side of things, plus you have to remember the amount of work that went into the mod to get it to where it is at now...if someone was willing to do that amount of work for NS 1.04 why not just contact Flayra about the full time programming position for NS....to get it up to where you wanted it.

    My 2 cents.

I wouldn't be too sure about that, Paulson. All said and done, such a mod basically creates its own, smaller community out of the pool of the 'core-community'. It may limit itself to one or two servers, but it doesn't necessarily have to be non-existent due to these numerical relations.

If you can get a team together to do it, try and keep balances changes as few and far apart as possible make it the same as it was then.

I think I have the 1.04 patch as well as the dedicated patch and the original installation, but I have no way of either hosting or mass distributing. Can some one PM me if they want to help the project and/or host the files.

I didn't see the 1.0DS on there... so here's some linkage:
    <a href='http://files.redphive.org/ns_v1_win32_dedicated_server.zip' target='_blank'>1.0 Windows DS</a>
    <a href='http://files.redphive.org/ns_v1_linux_dedicated_server.tar.gz' target='_blank'>1.0 Linux DS</a>

Nem my post had two points. The first you may be right about, there could be enough interest, I was just showing people some numbers, a lot of people rush into things thinking they are going to get fame and fortune, not to realize that the only one that is going to play the mod is themselves...just trying to be a voice of caution.

The 2nd was that any said programmer that is good enough to take a WON game over to Steam, and make it playable would probably do better working with Flayra than working on there own project. Especially after the "need" programmer position I saw a month ago...unless that has already been filled.

Anyway, if this takes off go take a look at griffin run, they allow mod switch technology on there servers so you could in essence have 1.04 and 3.0 on the same server and switch as you see fit, you might even get them to host 1 for you.

You can run 1.04 in steam, all that is needed is to create a half-life.wad and a few empty sprite files. The half-life.wad can just be an empty file, its just so that the installer can detect where half-life is installed. As for the sprites there is a post about how to do it in the tech support for getting 2.01 on steam which includes the sprites in a zip.

I'm not saying its straight forward, but you don't need a programmer to do it. Anybody with some technical skills can do it and then create their own installer.

I have 1.04 installed on steam now. I needed it to find out how the waypoints used to work in 1.04 for my waypoint fix plugin.
