Design concept for sync transport

1 pic
hey fellas...sorry i haven't been updating/keeping up with the forums...i'm on spring break. Anyways...If you remember my map it has an lobby which overhangs a cliff face. adjacent to it (about 300 feet away) is an another cliff overhang you haven't seen yet...the landing pad/loading bay. I was thinking since some aliens can wall climb (bob can...can any others?), it would be cool to be unconventional. And instead of making a vent as a shortcut...i could just have the aliens climb the rock face sideways from the lobby to the loading bay (near the marine start).

Anyways...i know this is all confusing...I will have a layout design of the map ready in a week or so that will clear things up a bit. But for now...I wanted to show you a design for a ship that will be docked at the loading bay. As of now I'm making the prefab. But hopefully cliff will find the time to actually model the design (he models and skins as well as textures), which will lower r_speeds and free up some HL limitations for me.

Anyways...here is the design spec...tell me what you think:

nice artwork mofo. i like the design for this one. looks pretty complicated, though, so watch the r_speeds if you're not going to make it as a model.

That's an incredibly detailed ship there. If Cliff can get it to look good (and I'm sure he will), then I would definitely say stick it in.

ok so i went ahead and prefabed the ship...i really don't know what the r_speeds on it are but i don't expect them to be more than 200. So until (hopefully) cliff models it...we're going with this...I'll skin it soon and then send the textures over to cliff to make better...once that's done...I'll show you guys the finished version.

ok here's a very preliminary layout of ns_sync. It's pretty self explanatory...except for the numbers. They refer to the basic number of "lengths of room" which are roughly the same size...as you can see, i've tried to make each route very equa-distant.

and ken - this is the doughnut shaped room i was talking about earlier .

Don't worry about the similarities in the layout BM. As I stated here, I have trashed my previous layout.

The dropship looks great, but I think you may need more then one route to each hive on the layout. It is far too linear from the center ring to each hive room. Maybe add some new rooms and connecting corridors in, and you'll be set. I'm really looking forward to seeing this map in action.

That dropship looks just incredible, but it also looks very high poly. Definitely make it a model if you're going to be putting it in. As for the layout, I'd have to agree with Ken and say that it is far too restrictive for the marines. I think that somewhere in the mapping guidelines it says that the marines shouldn't have an easy route directly from hive to hive, but they also shouldn't have to go back more than halfway to reach a route to another hive room. And you certainly seem to have completed a fair amount of those connecting hallways, so I hope this won't affect you too much.

Really like that transport design, Mofo. Big and bulky, which really conveys the idea of it being a transport vehicle, rather then a fighter ship or something.

Can't wait to see it in game and textured. I'm sure Cliff can texture that baby up nicely.

Looks good, but if you were to go a step further, which would be better, and make a model of your ship, you could save a lot of planes which you could use in your map

Wow, bad mofo, I love you in the way that straight men love other straight men!
Love the dropship, can't wait to see cliff skin it!

As I said before I love it, but something I noticed since you showed us the 3d model is the supports holding up the thrusters, it might just be me but they look like they'd snap off under extreme pressure.

I like it more without the upward thrusters.. they just look too big. The ship has already backward thrusters, and in space you don't need upward thrusters, only little side-ones (vaccuum). The ship could enter an athmosphere just gliding, he has some wings.. i like the ship really, just dont like the thrusters...
