Yes, NS is simular to Gloom ..

as it is to;

Starcraft
AvP
AvP2
Alien series
Anything Sci-Fi related
• SwitenSwiten Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4707Members
As I recall (pardon my memory) AvP and Alien did not have turret/spawns etc.

..... i meant in a closer way than that.

the gameplay itself is very similar to gloom.
the only big difference ive seen is the "commander mode"

you have to forgive these two.
they're just the local gloom idiots that don't know what they're talking about.

KtK is generally evil. But that is off-topic. I'm just wondering if anyone from NS used gloom as a reference for the mod.

Do a search for Gloom.

Flayra himself has said that he liked that mod a lot, and NS does have some influence from it.

Actually, he means the Alien film series, and there were turrets in it. Sentry turrets. That was 1986, so it predates Gloom by at least a decade. Sorry, but you can't claim (by proxy) ownership of that concept.

This is a fairly large difference. Also, were there hives in Gloom? That's where the aliens get most of their abilities, and creation/protection of hives is what drives their game.

Well, then the non-class based marines, the resource model, the . . ah, screw it. I give up. Both games have aliens and humans, so they're the same.

Plus, I like people who are intelligent enough to accuse you of blatantly ripping something off, but apparently aren't bright enough to figure out the really difficult 'search' function that will let you know if another Einstein out there has already brought the point up.

Well Gloom could have "hives"... teams were divided by bases, So The Humans could have a "base" and aliens could have "Hive". They both must create defence and protect to ensure that they will survive.

Also. Is there an IRC server or some other way of connecting in order to make this discussion faster?

Flayra said any similarities between Gloom and Natural-Selection are purely coincidental.

Yes, and he's said as much, many times. He also encourages people to play Gloom. NS has led to many forum members downloading and playing Gloom.

#natural-selection . . . on any gamesnet (I could be wrong) server.

I don't quite see the point of any discussion . . . Gloom has been mentioned as a reference many, many times. If you then proceed to say that this game is precisely a Gloom rip-off, then you haven't played it. The differences are quite large. And if you still have to call it a Gloom rip off, then we'll have to assemble a list of all the games that Gloom 'ripped off'.

Just relax a bit, ok?
