Gamma reset

Grr.
Alright, I understand the reason for having NS reset my gamma before I play. The game should be dark and scary. Unfortunately, your definition of perfect gamma isn't even ATTAINABLE by my monitor, without changing my brightness settings in Windows.
I always knew setting my brightness up really high isn't fair, and I've always had mine set to a reasonable setting. Now, I can't see anything at all. You know the default HL menu, with the graphics behind the bright yellow text? I just see pure black back there when I don't have my settings changed.
I tried renaming the program that changes my gamma to something else, that worked. Finally I could see what the hell I was doing in the game. Too bad that upon exit, NS decides to change it back to default AGAIN. You're probably wondering why this matters if my gamma is set back to default when I quit a game. The problem is this: Now, every time I start a game, even if it's NOT NS, my gamma settings get changed NO MATTER WHAT. Basically this means that after playing NS even once, I need to reboot my entire computer to play any game.
If you're still wondering how dark my monitor is, even on the HIGHEST SETTINGS (100 contrast, 100 brightness): in the gamma setup tool, I can't even see the 4 below the one box (I can't distinguish any of the boxes from the background either), and I couldn't even see the CRATES the alien is supposedly hiding behind, let alone the alien ITSELF, let alone its eyes.
My only option right now to avoid this is to get a new monitor.
So far this is my only complaint (other than.... well you know). I've even spoken with Charlie in email a few times, he's a great guy (helped me figure out mouse-to-ray calculations for the little RTS mod I made).
For the next release, PLEASE disable brightness resetting, ESPECIALLY on closing the game.
Thanks,
-LuftWaffle

Maybe the game should add brightness to what's already set, not add it to the baseline setting.
In any case, yours is the first case I've heard of this happening 4 minutes into a game. The overbrightening normally takes effect at the moment the map loads.
What are your spec's (gfx card, etc.)?

specs:
1500Mhz P4
Win98
ATI 128 AGP Pro (32MB)
30GB HD
256MB RAM

Your right it doesnt change the settings but if i dont correct it, then it says like that.
Can't there just be a console command to disable the gamma adjusting?
What drivers are you guys who are having problems using?
Also, those of you using nvidia cards should give this a try.

Not...gamma...not...gamma...not...gamma....
And don't think I missed that little parenthetical dig Twysta. If that's how you are going to be, I'd sooner not have people making remarks like that around. We're trying to help people here and give them something they might enjoy playing.
There is nothing at all in NS preventing anyone from monkeying with their own gamma to hell and back if they want. The brightness is from overbrightening, not gamma. If people are having problems, it is from compatibility issues that haven't become apparent until now. There has already been one solution posted for people having problems who are using nvidia cards.

I just think you shouldnt have made the thing that changes gamma without permission or at least have an option to turn off auto gamme brightening.
im still playing and i really like the mod even if i have to play 300-800 ping with everything really bright
edit: over-brightening gamma whatever its the same thing to me. what it all comes down to is: the game is too bright and it wont let me make it less bright unless i change my whole desktop to being very dark which im not going to do.
I have windows vista
I press cntrl + alt + del
I press ESC
Gamma resets back
Take care.
