1 AND A HALF hours were wasted in 10 mins wen people decided to make the teams 10-4 in the marines favour..i spent an hour putting up defenses (which on the aliens side i have to say pretty meek..its to easy just to strafe side to side and avoid them) only to see them wiped out by marines with HMG's in 10 mins needless to say im pretty ###### off as no on listened to a god damn word i said :'(

I have been playing for about 6 hours now, and I don't think there is a real imbalance

I have both won and lost as both sides

though what I have learned is that a recorceful gorge left alone for to long is a very bad (well good for me) thing

I managed to fillup a hive room with offence and defence chambers, I was able to hold off any marine attack on that point, and then I simply spread my controll

also as a side note the time when I got that hive, the other hives were all taken down, I was the only one left alive and infact the teams were 1 - 7 at the time (then they became even and we whuped ###)

On the marine side I played a good game where the commander just kept on giving us tasks (spreading turrets every where,l taking out hives etc) and eventualy we wiped up there also

I've won with both teams, it's real hard to say... I think it may appear that the humans may win more is because everyone wants to effin' be one. NS needs some team equalization features real bad...

Both teams seem quite fair, but I have noticed that EVERYONE wants to be a bloody marine. That sucks. I had to play as a bloody alien throughout the time I was able to play (afore I got frustrated with the lag), and when I switched to the marines, some bloke got angry at me. Yar.

I don't mean to be crass, but 95% of the people playing as aliens are playing them wrong. Of course skulks are easy to kill. Of course some of the aliens are weak. Do not just rush, head on towards a marine, and expect to win. You may not like this, and it may go against your normal playing style, but you have got to learn how to be effective killers. Wait around a corner for a marine to come pass you, then co and chomp his butt. Hide up in the shadows and wait to drop down. PARASITE the marines, so you can see where they are, and where they're going.

I can't tell you how many times I've had the #### scared out of me playing this game. And I'll tell you what, not a single one of those times was when a skulk tried to make a mad dash at me from across a room.

Yeah what greedo said. Aliens will get better as they learn the maps and can team skulk rush and contain the marines while 1-2 builders build up nodes and hives. This will take a few days if not a few weeks to start kickin in on the pub servers. If you doubt the ownage of the skulks, check out KidC's cool NS video where Ekaj takes out 4-5 marines singlehandedly. This footage is from the 1.0 build with top playtesters who have been playin NS for over 6 months. If you play CS remember back to the first time you had the bomb on a new map with no clue. You learn.
Anyway check out the cool movie:

Well, I played for a couple of hours last night and saw pretty much the same things - aliens getting outnumbered 1.5 or 2 to 1 and getting hammered. I've played on DoD servers where you can't join a team if it's too unbalanced already - surely that would not be difficult to implement?
Even so, it's not impossible to kill marines as an alien; as a skulk I chomped up quite a few, and I suck at quick-reactions games! Charging down a corridor does not work, you've got to skulk around corners etc. Does anyone know how to run down a ceiling and look around without coming off though?
I for one am going to give the game the benefit of the doubt and let things settle for a month or so before judging the balance.

The only thing I am wanting to add to this topic is this:
Whenever you make offensive chambers, add webs EVERYWHERE. This will GREATLY increase the kills of the chambers. If you do this your chambers can take out even heavies.

Resourceful gorge left alone = heavy alien defences and upgrades

Gorge webbing = marines stuck in alien turret crossfire

Parasiting = seeing where lone marines or teams attack

Lerk with 2-3 hives = spore cloud and umbra protection for skulks and fades attacking marine base

Onos with Priaml Scream = should help out, didn't seem to help me, though

These things were designed to augment each other, and provide some stiff opposition. Although the aliens don't have a commander, if they work together in key areas of the map, they can easily put up a good fight, even if moderatly outnumbered.

Rebo, you might want to consider posting you bug/discovery here in the bug reporting forum.

well this is quite a change from the overbalanced marines type thread now isnt it...? buddy the level 5 costs resource points so its not like everyone can gestate at once and have a whole team of onos....

I must say that I think the marines are the easier team to play but that the two classes are really even. Playing the aliens takes a lot learning what everything does and reading the manual helps but in truth it's pretty hard to understand until you've experienced what it's talking about. For me I play some, check some new things out, then go back to the manual and read up on what I was trying out. It really helps.

Ok

So far when the teams are balanced and both teams at least have a general idea on how to play, ( i mean the game has only been out 2 days) that the teams are very even. I was on the Aliens in a 11 v 11 game and once we got fades and onos we were started to beat the marines back. We had them on defense, and they had all there armor and everything. It just takes teamwork.

Also the Marines need flamethrowers, and the Fade Acid Cannon needs to have its damage upped. Anyone like this idea?

I SOOO agree with you about AvP2. I generally choose the Praetorian because it is the biggest and scariest of the group. I one time was stuck at one end of a long tunnel with a runner, and 2 marines on the other side of the tunnel. The marines just camped and shot down the tunnel. So, while they shot at my friend I ran up, over, and behind the marines and start slashing. All I heard from the other room was "JESUS! IT'S BEHIND US!"

This feeling needs to be represented in the game as well. Sure a lvl 5 is one big mutha to stare down, but it doesn't happen all that often. I too have had some problems chomping marines as its tough to either tell that I'm eating them or the fact that they are wearing more armor than a platoon. If its a problem for aliens, then perhaps the damage they do should be increased. (Not their HP, just the damage.)

Sheesh...

seems like ma post got sum attetion... well, after all i have to say that its mainly due to teams being unfair that marines win. also because of the unexperience of alein players... GUYS ALIENS ARENT MADE TO RUSH, THEY ARE MADE TO SCARE PEOPLE TO DEATH AND TO ATTCK FROM BEHIND AND THINGS LIKE THAT. DONT RUSH.... well i have to admit i havent played yet but im downloadding it right now so ill get to see unbalances with my own eyes.. ill see ya guys in about 2 hours to tell u guys.
