<div class="IPBDescription">id hasn't done this in a long time...</div>Today is quite suprising, as id has announced a release date for DOOM III. This summer.

(Nasdaq: ATVI - News) confirmed today that id Software's highly anticipated DOOM 3, will be released this summer for the PC. The latest installment in one of the most successful franchises in gaming history, DOOM 3 utilizes id's revolutionary new 3D graphics engine to draw players into the most frightening and gripping gaming experience ever created.
"DOOM 3 is the most anticipated PC game of the year and fans around the world are eagerly awaiting its release," Ron Doonink, CEO, Activision Publishing. "Id is delivering the most compelling horror gaming experience to date, so get ready for DOOM."
"This summer we're sending game fans on a first-class trip to Mars -- with a layover in Hell," said Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. "DOOM 3 is coming to the PC and delivering the most atmospheric, terrifying and visually mind-blowing gaming experience ever conceived."<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

id generally doesn't do the whole release date thing, they usually are completely mum and stick to the old "when it's done" and then one day boom quake 2 has gone gold, but now it looks like they're stating it'll be out this summer. I figured it would anyway, since it was already known that they're not showing DOOM III at E3 due to being in crunch mode, but this makes it all official-ish.
And in an interesting bit of humor, its funny that Activision's CEO misused the proper capitalization of id. :P

Doom what? This game, for a really strange reason that I can't even put my finger on, doesn't excite me in the least <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Oh and I can't wait to see the demon transformed areas. :D

So, they ARE replacing Flynn Taggart with Dr. Raven Darktalon Blood. Interesting.
A very hidden level titled "Wolfenstein" starring an SS Trooper cameo.
If id does that, it'll make my day.
They said "of the year". Not "god only knows when it will be out".

Maby some people will buy more than one.....
But still, I think Doom 3 might be a decent buy now compaired to 2 years ago.
Since HL2 scared them, it forced them to change the game since Doom and HL are really two of the best known FPS.
DOOM III looks the exact same as it did in 2002 when id showed it off to us at QuakeCon. The style is the same, the art direction is the same. They've stuck to their design concept and there's nothing to indicate any "omfgs its hl2 lets change everything" factors...
That was at the very very beginning of development. Like, pre-design document. Basically 2/3 of id didn't want to do DOOM III, Carmack and some others did, Carmack basically drew the line and said they were doing DOOM III "or else". There was a lot of bad blood for several months, and Paul Steed was even fired over the incident. In retrospect that's not a bad deal cause they got a guy who worked on Shrek and is infiniately more skilled (though doesn't bring a barrage of chicks to Quakecon with him).
But all that's history now. As in, 4 years ago history.
