Great game.. minor issues

<div class="IPBDescription">Lag etc...</div>Whoa.. So this is NS? What a great game! Let me just say I believe that if a few small issues were corrected, NS would be the best (or tied with) mod ever.

My issue would have to be the lag. I've only ever played one non-laggy game and it was in a 4 man server. When is the lag issue going to be addressed?

By this weekend, as it says on the news page.

Thanks for bringing that to our attention, we had no idea it was an issue.

We will begin fixing it right away.

yeah ,lag is a big big big big problem. i think crouch needs to be fixed too. whenever i crouch, i think it stop about .5 sec then crouch. like freeze ,5 sec .
i like the jumping, this reminds me of the old cs time... yeah great game, great graphic. keep up the good work <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    gfu Pokey

It's not lag btw, a server side cpu useage overload.

You guys might want to post a list of servers in the news that are actually.. uhm.. good? *laughs*
Hey, I enjoyed the game with 8000 ping, I cant wait for 60 ;D

You know, I think I noticed that too, the game seems to pause slightly when I do the ol' Half-Life crouch-jump..

Oh yeah, I thought I should probably say this, you know, in case you hadn't heard yet.  There's a lot of lag going on on a bunch of these servers.  Do you think you could do something about that real quick?  That'd be great.
  • C_H_U_DC_H_U_D Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 3106Members
And there seems to be some lag, too.

I just played a game where my ping never went over 200

Find a good server and stop playing on the crap ones

Silver Fox, I hate you ask something like thise, but you are aware that there's a server side cpu useage problem causing the high pings?
  • GingerGinger Join Date: 2002-08-01 Member: 1043Members
here is a good idea! why dont you just go on to a server with about 3-5 people untill that patch thingy comes out then you cant moan about the lag!

    WOLF DEN - Natural Selection

    18 player slots
    84 ping

Please, do not talk to me like I'm some kind of fool.  I am very awair about the CPU usage problems.  The thing you guys seem to be having a hard time grasping is - there are better servers out there.

If you join a server and you have a crappy ping, leave, find a new one.

I heard there's a lag issue.. is this true?
  • Silver_FoxSilver_Fox Spammer Join Date: 2002-01-24 Member: 34Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
    No, its not.

    There is no lag issue.

However, there is a server CPU usage issue the slows the game play down to unplable on some servers.

There are, however, servers that play <b>just fine</b>.  Like the one I just posted.

well, Natural Selection takes more cpu then the normal counter strike or other half life server. But people don't see this, and run a 20 player server on a 500 MHZ (&#33<!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->...

this might work with cs (might) but with NS it causes massive pings, because the cpu cant handle everything.

    But:
<!--QuoteBegin--Natural Selection Website+yesterday--></span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td><b>Quote</b> (Natural Selection Website @ yesterday)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE"><!--QuoteEBegin-->If you are experiencing high CPU utilization (which leads to a player perception of 'lag&#39<!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->, try dropping down your player slot count by 2 (so from 14 to 12, for example). This will hold people over until there is a server-side patch which will be available in the very near future to both Linux and Win32 server ops. We know about the issue and have a fix determined that just needs to be tested and rolled out - please try to bear with us. NS is inherently much more processing-intensive than most HL mods due to complexity of the resource system, non-hit scan weapons, and other factors. We will get you running faster ASAP.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
