Actually, I even noticed an error on natural-selection.org where readyroom.org stuff got put into the news here. But it got changed.
Some of the stuff would be too nerdy to wear but whatever. NS still rocks.
Now, I need to go dig through my couch for that limited edition t-shirt.
They have merch for everything nowadays. As long as people buy the stuff, more power to the guys for making it. Every web comic and obscure site seems to have at least something for sale these days. I don't see why a populiar mod would be any different. <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->
My personal favorite: <a href="http://www.cafeshops.com/cp/prod.aspx?p=thensstore.3717036" target='_blank'>http://www.cafeshops.com/cp/prod.aspx?p=thensstore.3717036</a>
My favorite is the <a href="http://www.cafeshops.com/cp/prod.aspx?p=thensstore.3717062" target="_blank">TSA poster</a>:
tho the heavy marine with the <a href="http://www.cafeshops.com/cp/prod.aspx?p=thensstore.3723271" target="_blank">smokin HMG</a> is pretty sweet too!
Guess I'll have to get both <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
If you dont like it, dont buy it, simple as that. And save all the hippy selling out crap talk.
God forbid anyone make any money on a game, or want to advertise it.
This isnt dirrected to anyone (yet), however I know some hippy will come in saying how much NS is a 'sell out'.
Pft.
Grow up and take a wiff of the real world.
I thought those T-shirts were cool, especially the TSA marine ones. But the stickers and teddy bears are going a bit overboard, lol! And those ski caps cracked me up. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
I think I'll at least get a T-shirt, so I can support the NS team and look cool at the same time. <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->
<i>Edit: Hey check that shi...uh poop out man, I've got a star under my name, bring on the slu... uh women of loose morals!</i>
Its not cheap.
<!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/asrifle.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='::asrifle::'><!--endemo--> to overpriced merch
Me, I'll get myself the poster and possibly a T as soon as I manage to dig some new source of money open.
I'm sure there will be plenty of people accusing us of selling out or whatever over this, but I just want to assure everyone that that is not our intention. First and foremost we are looking to provide people with some fun ways of showing their love and support for NS.
I apologize if some of the merch seems expensive, but the cafe press store charges a lot for their base price, so we are not making a great deal of profit off this. It's mainly to help promote NS. And keep in mind that Flayra has devoted all of his time, energy, and meager financial means towards the development of this game. NS has been his only job for the past year and half, so any little extra bit of income allows him to focus more energy into making NS a better product.
I don't want people to think we are being cocky or jumping the gun here, setting up a merchandise store when the game hasn't even released yet. Wanting to wear a shirt with a cool image on it shouldn't be dependent on how popular the game is, but rather it should be because you like the shirt and want to show support for independent projects. I know a guy who still wears a windows 98 shirt -- just because he likes the shirt.
And finally, we've done our best to accomodate everyone's tastes. We will be adding more variety's of merchandise and designs as we go along. Unfortunately, it's not possible to show every design with all the possible sizes, layouts, and styles of shirts, without making the store way too cluttered and huge. So,if enough people would like to buy some long sleeve shirt versions of these designs, for example, let us know and we can see what we can do.
Thanks.
and about this sentence
"This arrangement also implies that "mods" are made as art, not for making money"
why make merchandise then? <!--emo&:0--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':0'><!--endemo-->
make up your minds <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->
but i can tell you 1 thing, ill keep playin this badass mod <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/asrifle.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='::asrifle::'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/asrifle.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='::asrifle::'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/asrifle.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='::asrifle::'><!--endemo-->
A sweatshirt would be nice for keeping me toasty while playing NS all night in the frigid cold of winter... and the metal TSA and Heavy marine shirts are rear-end-kicking-nice!
Anyway, NS is out now, so people who are waiting to buy stuff until they like the mod (and therefor want to support it, as it is the nicest mod this side of the Ariadne Arm) can whip their credit cards out right now <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo--> I can't wait until people start getting used to how its played, then there can be some *real* fun <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
What are you waiting for? Download the mod, read the manual, and hit the servers, people! g0 g0 g0!

The point is, there is <b>no</b> money being "made" here. Aside from the advertisement value, the merch can help Flay cut some of his significant financial losses. When you have to pay for room and board off your own dime, two years spent working on "art" really adds up.
Not to mention paying for proffessional voice actors (to make the gaming experience as top notch as it can be), server costs, insane phone bills talking to team members all over the world...the list goes on.
We're really not greeedy capitalist pigs trying to screw everyone over here. If you don't like the merchandise, don't buy any. If you like the design of a particular t-shirt, go ahead and get one. If nothing else at least you'll have a shirt you like to wear. If you want to show support but don't have enough cash, get a sticker. It's not like we've made buying stuff a requirement for playing the mod.
