Can't install ns... incorrect hl version error

  ya, i got the same prob as this guy has. Wut should i do?? i did a ton of things and it still did not work

  I believe having a moddified hl.exe file (NO-CD warez?) will cause NS to think you don't have the latest version...

  Um, we were going to install NS on our 30 machines at a LAN shop but we get this same error at every machine. Who tested this stuff?

  Yo all. I had this same problem. But just now I did a re-install of the HL 1.1.1.0 patch (full), and NS installed just fine. So give it a try!

  dang it, i have cs 1.0.0.5 retail patch, and i reinstalled it and i still get this message...

  dudes, dont u guys know that u need  HALF-LIFE to make ANY mod work ? CS retail cant run mods... they need the original half-life code (beside cs normally NEED hl to run, they just putted some thing to make it work alone)... if not then we could be playing mods freely without having to buy hl !

  If you have CS Retail, you should be able to install it. MonsE is the expert on that stuff though. He designed the thing that detects HL/CS.

  Here's how i got around the problem;
  
  When going through all the steps where you have to press next, you evuntally come upon a menu where it asks where to install the files.  If you only have CS retail, the files still automatically go to C:/Sierra/Half Life.  To fix this, just go through and change it so it goes to the CS folder instead of Half life

  just to add my 2 cents...
  
  ...downloaded the patch, got the same error whilst installing to cs retail, version 1.5 . I've reinstalled cs , the ns executable still won't accept it...I've tried renaming my cstrike.exe to hl.exe, I've fiddled with my sierra.inf file...
  
  Would really like some advice please, 90Mb is a lot for a poor weasly 56ker to download to find it won't work  <!--emo&:(--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('><!--endemo-->
  
  EDIT: Reinstalled again, but used the NS patch after installing 1.3 , which got the installer to work, but NS, in fact, doesn't. Might be worth a try for you other folks though.
