What happened to ns_lost
I love that map, but most of the servers I play on do not have it anymore. Was it taken out in beta 3? I mostly play on the NSarmslab server, can't believe that map isn't played anymore.

Here, I'll explain:
If you leave base going west toward Alpha Continuum and Los Paranoias, you have to go down and up this pair of ramps, which takes time, and usually the whole alien team wants you out of that side since it has 3 nearby RTs. Most of the time, if you want to expand westward, you're going to need your entire team to go there at the same time, because a good chunk of the alien team wants that side of the map for THEIR rts, and the hive.
On the other hand, if you leave base taking the east side exit, the first RT you encounter is behind a door you need to buy a welder to get. Between the time and money it takes to get the welder, that's a lot more time and effort than most maps need even just to even GET TO the first res node, let alone the extra time putting it up and moving on. Plus, if you just bypass this resource, the next-nearest resources are 1) Coolant Distribution, which is a bit of a walk from marine start, or 2) Temperature Control, which is even further.
Basically, some people don't like Lost because marines don't have an easy time expanding at the start. Once they get some momentum, they're okay, but it's pretty easy to bottle up the marines, and if they don't have teamwork, you lock them in and take them out.
If you relocate to Continuum Access (The RT room outside of Alpha Continuum), that's 3 res within immediate reach. A guaranteed 3 RTs, think about that.
If you just build an expansion on the other side of the map, you get about 6 guaranteed to be passed constantly by your marines. In essense, you control 6 of the 10 resource towers, guaranteed.
Sound good? I thought so.
But it is hard for marines to win in Lost at marine start, simply because it's more slanted towards the aliens.
It's one of my favorite maps to comm, though. That and lost, I like comming lost.
Well, that's why I hate it then.
its under my bed
but its lost ;(
Ahhh, explains a lot, is the crash server side or client side ?

Server side. All the clients freeze but the game carries on. I reconnected to this one game 4 times before giving up hope. I was doing well too.
Ah well.
OT:
No one has mentioned relocating to Temperature Control. That almost garentess 2 hives, ( 1 is easily sieged from the weldable elavator, and the other is about 30 metres away,) and you get 2-4 rts, possibly marine start too if you can elec it fast enough.

IMO temp control is one of the worst places to relocate to.
Youve got so many entrances too watch that the aliens just simply overwhelm you. Especially from the vent.
Very balanced in combat terms, if I could ever find the dude who actually made lost I would tell him some tweaks needed to the map design so they could be fixed.

Found in ns_lost.txt in the maps directory.
The local admins here aren't in touch with bugs/exploits etc. so the map is still in rotation on the classic servers.
On another note, reloc's are feasible on lost. I have been on the receiving end of many creative relocs.

I remember in 2.01, we rushed to phase tech and built a phase through the wall at the weldable armory. Two of us got in, recycled the phase, then built a nice CC, an IP, got an armory (And even had time to make it advanced), and we were about to get a proto up when an admin got frustrated and noclipped an onos into the room.
It was great, though. It'd work now, if it weren't for the build radius.
2-3 fades with rockets used to go through that base like a chainsaw through butter

For example, how about moving one to the bottom of the large double-ramps just outside the spawn?
Relocating the base should be optional, not necessary.
They should put a resource node at the bottom end of the double-ramp to Los Paranoias like Stoatbringer said. I can't think of any map where resources are so far from marine base. Maybe they should even move Los Paranoias RT to the bottom of the double-ramp, so that there isn't a triple-resource somewhere on the map like there used to be in Cargo hive of Ns_Nothing. Triple-resource points are always HUGE focus points on any map.
The main problem with Lost is just that the marines have to walk way too damn far from their default starting place to get their hands on more resources. Lost is one of those maps where the marine start position is so useless, you commonly see relocations for better position. Relocation should be a possibility on all maps, and some maps should have some excellent relocation spots, but relocation shouldn't be ALMOST MANDATORY.
Put a few more resources closer to the marine start, adjust the map so that the marines aren't left jogging for kilometers to get places in the beginning, but other than that, it's fine.
There are so many vents on this map, and yet you can't weld any of them shut. All the way until the late game, these vents see plenty of alien traffic. Being able to weld a couple of them shut would be awesome. If anything, Lost needs to be a little bit more like Ayumi.
Lost is a good map at competitive levels, because the map design kind of favors aliens in the early game, and not marines. Marines might be stronger than aliens, but the map gives them drawbacks so that it can be closer.
Certainly Lost is a more interesting map than say, Veil. I can't stand Veil anymore. The damned map is like a Rorschark. It's perfectly symetrical. It's the most boring thing ever.
I belive its called gamma
Anyway; Lost is a fun map, if the people your playing with knows it. There are so many important places to take, hold and look out for.
Especially fun it is when youre a marine and have temp control and the corridor outside los paranoias sealed up.
