hehe that cool and all but I did this post a long time ago and no one did anything with it... I even posted pictures.. No one seemed to do anything with them. Also i dont understand why he posts them and it gets modeled. Its kind of weird.... <!--emo&--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif' /><!--endemo-->

sry, that was counter-productive, and i do like the model. However, try chamfering more to make it a bit smoother. also, it could be a bit longer.

Hi dudes...had a go @ mach II, this is me first model...its far from perfect but see what u think. monkey, if u cud tell me what settings u use to render that wud help loads.

<a href='http://i.domaindlx.com/TheUdderOne/machII.jpg' target='_blank'>This image</a> is what I've managed to do, but graphics card on the laptop sucks, so render aint too gud.

    Tell me what u think.

its pretty much teh same settings i used to use and chet uses

you make a skylight over the model and point the dome part down toward the model

you press 9 to bring up the light plugin
where it says no plugin selected click there and go to light tracer

press 8 to change backround color to something you like

    and then render

Cheers chrono...altho I dont have a clue about how to add a skylight.

What did u think o the model?

Edit: Figure out it was in the creating part of the menu. Do u just use normal material assigned to every object?
  • ChronoChrono Local flyboy Join Date: 2003-08-05 Member: 18989Members
for skylight it should be in the creation tab under lights dont go into the menus on top of the screen it should be on the right where there is like a button for sphere and such but there is a light tab

on the model it seems kinda boxy but a little roudning will fix that whats teh PC?

we will never know....MAX keeps on crashing when i try to open it.

I think its related to the fact i'm using the laptop...2Ghz Celeron with about 128Mb Memory.

I'll try putting it onto the main PC, in the meantime tho...how do I go about rounding it?
  • ChronoChrono Local flyboy Join Date: 2003-08-05 Member: 18989Members
    chamfer tool realy helps

    select your model
    right click
    go to convert to
    editable poly
    go to edge selection mode
find the little chamfer button on the right side
click the little icon next to the box
set in a number (change to see which looks best

you can use editable mesh also but i prefer poly
  • TheUdderOneTheUdderOne Join Date: 2004-05-04 Member: 28471Members
    cool.

its 3715 polys...that sounds high to me.
  • ChronoChrono Local flyboy Join Date: 2003-08-05 Member: 18989Members
    unfortunetly thats very high <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo--> you wanna keep it near 1500 or less max 2000 but thats for the low end guys <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

  • TheUdderOneTheUdderOne Join Date: 2004-05-04 Member: 28471Members
K, well i'm gunna optimize polys later, but check out the gun with texture:

    <a href='http://i.domaindlx.com/TheUdderOne/mach2-texture.jpg' target='_blank'>Here</a>

    That should work.

    read? WTH is that? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

e-poly has a spinner though, which can come in handy.

TIP: the spinner saves values, so you can use them without adjusting to get it the way it was before. (i dont think undos effect it)

    im not a good skinner
But i think i can have a crack at it :/

Ill look at the oringal picture and see if i can find some actual metal and stuff....
  • big_jimbig_jim Join Date: 2003-12-14 Member: 24350Members
if someone has already said this...oops, but just looking at the pics, the grip doesnt look big enough to take a magazine, unless it was really narrow : /

by big i mean long, like a bullet with case is measured as 9mm x 20mm (dont say OMG n00b bull375 arn7 7h47 l0n9!11!!1, i dont know either way, im just giving an example <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->), where the 20mm is the.... gah i dont know how to put this : /

bah ignore me, just model yourself a magazine and see if it will fit in without huge clipping out the back.

other than that, sweet work D:

I say we just take that main block above the knife attachment and say its a p90 style magazine. Fire until empty and then just knock it out the side and push another one pack in.

wow, neato, tis a good photoskin (try making up the other bits using photoshop)
  • TheUdderOneTheUdderOne Join Date: 2004-05-04 Member: 28471Members
Ya, fits sweet from the side cos its the pic i used in MAX to model it to. Dont have photoshop on me @ the mo cos i'm @ home, and my real comps @ uni.

Still, it was my first model and i think it looks ok. Gunna optimize the polys to knock down the PC.

Is it gunna b hard knocking up the textures from scratch in photoshop, as I am shite at making gun metal textures. Suppose i could steal from the photo that I used tho.

    Meh...still waiting fer reply drake!

You should change absolutely nothing. It is awesome. Now get someone to mesh & skin it. Then release that mofo so I can redifine the art of pistol whippage!
