Do you need steam to run NS? I keep getting errors when I try to connect saying my "protocol is not the newest version" or something similar but I have all the recent patches. Anyway, I don't particularly want to run steam if I dont have to.. is it necessary?

    Yes, you do need steam to run NS v3.0 beta #. Maybe you are trying to play on a beta 4a server and you have not downloaded and installed the beta 4a patch yet.

    If you did, then I have no idea of how to fix this. Try over in the steam forums (www.steampowered.com)

    I made a steam account about a year ago but I sure don't know what it was :/

    There's no (big) need to be afraid of Steam. I was at first, but once you get it working, it turns out to be a pretty good system.

    Well, the problem was that I had linked my only cdkey to the account that I had lost, therefore I could not play unless I found the account or rebought the game, which would suck.

    However, I say "had" because I found it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> and all is well.
