Edit: Ok, its May 12th through May 14th. I REPEAT, THIS IS NOT A SCAM, I JUST FINISHED RUNNING IT AND PUTTING IT ON. IT IS 100% STREAMED. JUST RUN IT, DAMN IT. ITS QUICK AND EASY, EVEN DIALUP CAN DO IT. DO IT NOW.

And on a lighter note: Holy crap, who ever heard of a company being THIS generous? This is just a demo, btw- not a beta. Its a beta demo, but its a demo. So no, nothing after this. Just a beta demo. 3 days only, next week.

Holy crap.

It's on the latest PC Gamer demo disc, as well. I'm interested in this game, though - no monthly fee, and non-generic gameplay. Definitely one to follow.

Looks pretty too. More developers need to take notes on this stuff: Release a tiny demo installer a week BEFORE the beta starts, allow people to create their accounts in advance, distribute the load!

for those interested the company behind this has a pool of staff members from the World of Warcraft team, Valve, Lucas arts, the Diablo team and even Square =o

During instanced missions there's even supposed to be deformable terrain so you can blast craters with your spells, build bridges and burn down trees.

I've been waiting for this one

    Me signed up too.

The program is also on their official site and gamespot too. It's only 64kb.

The founders of the company were the original founders of Blizzard, and the programmers of battle.net.

Oh, and this will be the first ever NO-MONTHLY FEE MMPORG. /me tingles with excitement.

Always been put off this game genre because of the subscription fees. However, with no fees and a generous trial I don't see why I shouldn't give it a bash

Correct, its not PVP- the game streams.

Which actually proves another thing: Once you buy the game and all that, they say you can play it from ANYWHERE that downloads are available and the hardware can run it. And it looks to be true with this- being all the stuff you see is streamed to you, it'd only be a little bit.

One of the things from a interview from last month's PCG: The way the game will be able to keep the servers running, is from numerous expansion packs(projected to be $30, every 6 months). Thing is, if you don't have a expansion pack, and someone else does, they can invite you to play, and it'll be streamed to you that way.

Is it me, or is that whicked cool?

I think he means that it isn't pay to play, rather than not player vs player(you CAN do that, but if you don't want to noone can force you).

There's battle arenas set aside for PvP though I'm not sure what they're doing beyond that.

The game's a lot like CoH combat/level wise in that you gain more abilities as you level but none of the abilities are better than one another reallly; this means that higher level chars aren't necessarily more powerful, they just have a bigger toolset to play with and therefore more options of attack or defence =3
Essentially you could go in with a newly created character and take on a top level character and win. The odds would be heavily stacking against you but if the high lvl doesn't use their abilities right and you're sharp then win for the new person ^^

The missions sound a lot more interactive than the usual MMO fare as well. In one mission you have to steal a hydra egg... the problem is they're absolutely huuuuge so one character has to pick up and lug it over their head, the egg's weight slowing them down and making them unable to fight while carrying it around, a factor that becomes even more interesting when you realise the mother is guarding the nest and many other vengeful hydras won't be too chuffed at you stealing their unborn young XD

The team's also taken a unique approach to travelling; if you want to meet with a friend you can simply open the map, click your friend or a town and instantly be there. The same also applies for quests you've completed so while the option to go exploring the vast world (and it's everyone in one world by the way so expect there to be plenty of people, plus they mention 'seamless', no loading ala AC2 sound good to anyone else? =D ) but if you're feeling impatient or need to get somewhere it's just a quick click away ^^

The only 'down side' I can see to this maybe is that there's no crafting but from the descriptions of the combat, quests and overall content available I doubt it'll matter much. The more I look into it the more I like the designers philosphy... fun and players over stats and hours of repetitive time investment. You'll even find yourself maxxing your levels out rapidly as 'the grind' isn't really the point of the game, but rather the beginning
