Another newbie's thoughts
I'm relatively new to NS, started playing about 2 weeks ago, and one of the first games I played was Combat Only.
I played it for the first 3 days I would say, and tried then to play normal NS, but couldn’t, so this review is more combat only aimed.
I enjoy combat only for the fact you decide what equipment you want, you get the good stuff relatively fast. You can choose what you want to be, whether it’s an armoured up HMG dude, fast and nimble jet pack guy, or a techy with all the gadgets.
Either way the game is very god for combat only.
As for the new patch, I obviously didn’t know all the ins and outs of the old .3 beta, but I have noticed some of the changes.
The new sounds are ace, I love them, especially the welder, MUCH better sound. No probs with that. I have some bugs on my GFX card with some maps now, which annoys me, e.g. some doors are textured on mine. Bizarre I know, but its weird. It’s to my PC as my GFX card is a 128mb ATi Radeon 9600 with up to date drivers. Worked fine with .3, but not .4
Now for my main moan.
One at a time spawn. Now, this is a very mixed feeling to me, because although most of the time I hate and loath it, I can fully understand why it was introduced. I have played CO games where it has been a stalemate for over 2 hours, the assault going back and forth, but now they have introduced the one at a time rule, this generally doesn’t happen as much. Once the team has been wiped out, there truly is no chance of coming back, where as before you could just about have a try.
But, that is for stalemates, which is good, what about right at the beginning. Although it is a well played tactic, and is the object of the game, the rush into the base, and winning in 5 minutes is the most annoying thing on earth. Before, when it was 2 at a time, you could stop this 60% of the time, but now, you can’t. Can’t they make it so as after 5 mins or so it goes down to 1 from 2 ? I know this opinion is very newbie, as some people would say if the 3 minute ownage occurs, you deserve it, which is true, but at least the chance the regain the game would be appreciated.
Anyway, those are my views for now, and like I said, I am a newbie so I can’t really complain about much else.
But thank you for your time

personally i enjoy the 20-30 minute combat games that occur when we finally get properly skill-balanced teams. it's just too fun to own as fade.
and, i suggest that when you are familiar with combat, u might want to try out NS:classic. i can tell you that it is much more rewarding.
oh, and the texture bugs aren't your fault at all. we all got'em.
-end game when both teams have x players at level 10
-timer end
-tie health at spawn to health of cc/hive
-take cc out of combat! (+ timer of course)
-etc, etc..
btw, hi Sekka. Please do make an effort to play and be familiar with ns_ games. Its more than 3/4 of point of playing this game (imho)
Sorry if this is going off-topic, mind if I ask why ?
The new spawn system is so bad that people with combat servers rolled back to 3V or even 2V. That's a really bad patch to make people roll back 2 patches man.

Really, go play regular NS as it is MUCH more fun (especially if the commander is good)
