About heavy armor

Need a pt angle here
I read in the manual that it gives 95% ( 95%!!! ) damage reduction. That would render a marine near invincible, right? Take a Fade swipe at 80 damage. 80 damage - 95% is.. 4 damage.

80 damage reduced to 4. That's amazing. And as only the Onos's attack can do more than 80 (120, which is 6 after 95% reduction) this seems to give an insanely huge advantage to any marine wearing it.

I am probably missing something however, and if a PT could fill me in on it I'd be appreciative. Thanks.

no it's not 95% dmg reduction it's 95% absorbtion of all damage. 95% of the damage will go to the armor while 5% damage will be taken to the health. Once you run out of armor of course all damage goes to health.

So if you take 100 damage, you will lose 95 armor and 5 health.

What that means (AFAIK) is that 95% of the damage is applied to the armor and 5% is applied to your health. If i did 50 damage to you in an attack your armor would go down by 47.5 and your health would go down by 2.5

Ah that makes a lot more sense, thanks.

Is that how it basically works in all Mods?

How come half the time I play CS, I get into a firefight and come out with 20 health and 100 armour?

I always buy the kevlar with the helmet, and I usually crouch while firing.

i think in cs u dont take armor damage unless you get it hit where the armor is..... it may also depend on the weapon but not sure about that

Well Revenge, for CS each weapon have different armor-piercing abilities. Some rifles and pistols will completely pierce through armor thus doing direct damage to your health.

If I'm not mistaken the p228 pistol completely ignores your armor.

    ooh... now this is interesting...

I may try forsaking the deagle and picking a different gun if that is the case... (Yeah, I admit it, I'm one of THOSE types that plays better with pistols rather than machine guns... Pity we dont get single shot, accurate rifles with crosshairs... You can tell I'm a KAR ##### cant ya?)

    Gibby has a point, though.
Smart commanders usually issue welders along with HAs, so they can be repaired on the fly (Imagine two heavy marines firing, and one continuusly welding.).
Defeating such groups requires good coordination and a fair bit of luck. I've seen good successes by throwing some sporeclouds and acid missles in their direction to then blink in and do some handiwork.

In CS you have no armor in legs, arms and face.

I always shoot the legs or arms, cause they have no damage reduction, and I don't use armorpiercing weapons.

Anyways, back to NE. The Heavy Armor can be said to both absorb and reduse damage. 95% damage absorbation means 95% of the damage goes to the armor, while 5 of it goes to your health. That's the same as saying the damage is reduced 95%.
However, the armor has it's own health too, you know. And besides, I think the Onos with 500 health is pretty much invincible in itself, seeing it has the health of 5 marines
It's all well balanced, I'm pretty sure of it.

It's perfectly possible to die with armor remaining. Let's say you've got 50 health and 100 armor, and your armor absorbs 25% of damage. You're being hit by someone who does 20 damage/hit. Your health/armor will do this:

    50/100
    35/95
    20/90
    5/85
    DEAD

This happens frequently with the lerk, since his armor is higher than his health after evolving Carapace (60/75).

think regular marine armor is 30% (but has more manuverability than heavy armor). The armor upgrades increase ammount of armor and % absorbtion as well.

and how much armor "health" does the heavy armor have?

It starts with 200 and can be upgraded until 290.
