Ns.... Thoughts, Rants, Opinions

Natural Selection is the most captivating mod (Or game, for that matter!) that i've played in.. oh so long.. the clever blend of RTS/FPS gameplay combined with the stellar atmosphere (the maps are great, so great) and coherent backstory, make for one heck-of a game....
But a few things have started to unnerve me about my beloved game... I pub a lot... more than I play organized.. and in pubs i'm starting to see such an elitist attitude (maybe it's the servers i pick) to new players.... I can understand a noob comm ruining the entire game et cetera.... but people who go way over the top on a newbie just trying to learn the game is discouraging.... I know you vets/elite players have been playing for a long time and know the game inside out.. but remember when you were new?
And also, the big emergence of **** in games.... having an admin around solves the problem, and I guess it's natural in the evolution of a multi-player game... maybe a testiment to its greatness.. who knows.. but people who build OCs on Res nodes, or people who get in the comm chair and recycle everything and spend all the res on turrets... et cetera
Another thing I'd like to see for the aliens is a more in-depth communication system... not all of us are lucky to have a mic <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> even though they're cheap.. I know for a fact I can't sit here and play NS at 2am shouting "GET TO MOTHER!"
I'm thinking more along the lines of a marking system on hive-sight.. not all that unlike parasite... a way for an alien to set a 'parasite like' marker on a position and have certain colors retain to certain requests... like 'hold position' and the like... just a way for the alien team to be more team-oriented and objective based.
Another thing, I think gorges who construct a res node should get a small increase in their res gain as long as the RT they placed is still getting resources, this would give an incentive for people to construct RTs instead of ****..... I mean, early fade in crucial, but not when half your team goes fade and 2 of 3 of them die to LMG fire..
erm, it's the day after 4/20.. my brain might not be working at full speed.. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Aliens need more teamwork than rines now..
As SmoodCroozn said, they have to deside their strategy and go with it.
Of course rines need teamwork too, they really cant solokill bigger aliens or siege hives alone etcetc.. The only thing that really allows aliens to solorambo is teh badass Fade, it is The rambo of NS. Because of high hp/ap and FAST moving around, it is very well suited for this.. And the biggest advantage of the aliens.. they can regen alone! Marines need medpacks and welders (and then you need 2 players because you cant weld yourself). Well umm, skulks are quite soloers too but they get better when they move in groups.. this goes to all ofcourse.. but an onos cant really solo around because it is a slowly moving barn.. the slowliness makes it unrambo. Onos needs umbra to be really good, thats 2 players again..
But now I wonder what I was really going to say.. I was going to say that both teams need teamwork, as it should be, and I really think it is quite balanced now, if someone does not do their stuff, the whole team is screwed. Though well rines do have the commander to kick the lazyasses to do their work, but thats with the cost of a player in the field.. Baa.. It's fine the way it is now.
I think what you are experiencing here is not the "veteran/elite" long term players but more likely the "Pseudo-Elite". These players are common in almost every online game I've played. They like to be "insiders" and have all the "1337 info dude". Then, when a new player shows up who isn't on the "inside", they attack--proving to everyone in earshot that they "pwn". These people are fairly easy to recognize by their ranting at the start of the match. They'll instruct everyone that if they don't do what the "Pseudo-Elite" tells them, their team will most definately lose. One slip up and the "Pseudo-Elite" will whine incessently while the rest of the team reaches for the mute.
I can't tell you how many times I've heard the Pseudo-Elite go through explicit detail how the resource system works or how each upgrade effects defense/damage or about their secret knowledge regarding what's in the next patch. The problem is, they're usually so far off from fact that it's lol funny.
Unfortunately, your plea for sanity won't affect them. Why? Because they "pwn".

And usually accompanied by no skill, don't forget.
But if your new I would just say don't talk to much and try and follow everyone else, don't let people know your a newbie
if you have any questions and the ppl on the server don't seem very nice ask it on the forum
A. Dont listen.
B. Dont want to learn
C. Think they are the greatest NS player ever and dont want to listen to maybe the comm or fellow team mates
D. Think they know everything which leads to C.
Not all newbies are like this.
I first played in 1.03 with the screwed up alien res system and did not gorge once, because I asked about the gorge. People need to ask questions not think they know it all or complain about the game, or what ever thats annoying. People can only take so much before they just dont care about other peoples thoughts. Some vets/skilled players have tryed to teach newbies. We have made irc channels, forum posts, in game training but it seems so few people use this. People need to treat NS like real life. Dont know something go ask a question. Dont complain about balance until you understand it. I know your not saying anything about balance but sometime you might but instead of going to the forums ask around. PM people what ever that makes you get an answer. Also ask more then one person.
