I Need My Hl/ns Tweaked

yeah the fps is falling at places
Well, I was wondering if there is a way to tweak my HL/NS to get better fps... I mean at times I have "perfect" fps of 89 (This is the ACTUAL fps, many have 100 fps showing even its much less like 70) but then at some places it falls below 40! I tried getting newest drivers for my vidcard, decreased color depth ingame, decreased resolution ingame, I still lose the fps in many places of maps (theyre the same places yes).

Now I don't think just blaming ppl for not optimising their maps will do it (this happens to me in any map I play NS and tbh other mods as well although not as badly), instead I should find a way to optimise my machine to play NS. And I need your help doing so, any ideas are welcome excluding maybe "format C: tbh it always works for meh"

Anyway specs as follows:

System

WinXP Home SP 1
AMD Athlon XP +2100
512 mb RAM (a possible bottleneck here, but I still think vidcard is the prob since HL don't seem to use up all remaining RAM anyway)
NVIDIA GF FX 5600

Ok I believe I need something to improve my vidcard cooperating with HL... I CAN achieve 90 fps by basically by looking at the floor, and I just can't believe I'm running outta performance on HL engine when my fps drops. So maybe you guys can help me out here?

i recently bought one of those cards, expecting it to be better than my Ti 4200 64MB, but it was worse

there are a few tweak guides around the forums, try searching, there are a few good ones.

Thanks for trying, but it didn't help... I've already used the refresh lock trick with nvidia setting before. The problem is that my fps goes down whenever there's action, or when I look into distance etc, as a matter of fact my fps seems to be around 50's normally which is amazing when you look at my machine specs...

Simply my machine behaves like a 300 mhz celeron with voodoo card when playing HL/NS even it shouldn't, and that's the problem I'm trying to fix. Thanks for the reply anyway, now are there any more things to try out?

I had the same problem as you once in Steam. What I did was boot into safe mode, remove the drivers(go to the add/remove programs, remove it from there, then remove it from your device manager), and boot into regular mode and install the newest nvidia driver set. Only happened that once to me, but after I did all that, it worked just fine.

You mean you started getting the good fps in-game? Ok I'll try that.

Ok no avail... Aren't there any tweaks to make my vidcard work better with HL engine? I think that alone could help with the fps issue.
