3 Weapon Slots To Play With

The way I figure it, with the Half-Life limit of 32 weapons, we have 3 left over in NS.

That is; (5 Alien Evolutions) x (4 Abilities per Evolution) + Knife + Pistol + LMG + Shotgun + HMG + Grenade Launcher + Hand Grenade + Mine + Welder = 29 Weapons


Now, the question is, what could be done with these extra slots?


This all assumes, however, that, even using cheats, Babblers/Spikes/Whatever can't be obtained.

    1 slot is reserved for the Flamer, so there are 2 weapon slots left.

    Lighting bolts for the commander to use on troublesome marines.

    I don't think the flamethrower is going to happen. From what I've heard, engine constrictions won't let it be volumetric, and Flayra didn't want to do it if it wasn't.

    Keep in mind the last update on the I&S F.A.Q. was on Dec. 10, 2003.

    Actually, the problem isn't that it's volumetric, it's that it doesn't LOOK good without sapping massive resources (Either by lots and lots of sprites like the Jetpack thrust stuff, or other ways.)

    Hmmm what about turrets and chambers? do they count towards the weapon count?

    no they count towards some player count if i recall correctly

    I believe "monsters" (any form of AI built into HL or a mod) do not count against the weapon count at all. Their weapons are just a general part of their coding. The weapons limit is a limit based on the weapons a player in game can actually use.

    I've said this once and i'll say it again. I (As a coder) know there is NO weapon limit. Only a SPRITE limit. Now your probaly saying WTH? By sprite limit I mean the hud you can only of a certain amount of weapons in a slot. But but but! You can have as many slots as you want. Just wanted to clear this up.
    EDIT: You also can add in as many weapons you want. Just they wont be in the hud so example. If I added a flamethrower but didnt add it to the hud i would have to type weapon_flamethrower in console to select it.

    actually daza if you go above 45-48 weapons (can't remember the precise number but it's in that range) the engine starts behaving extremely weird and unstable. I don't know why and there doesn't seem to be any explanations anywhere that I know of but it seems to be a generally accepted part of HL =o


    <b>edit:</b> by 'weapons' I mean selectable player weapons ^^
    You can probably get around it by making your own player weapon system ~shrugs~

    the only suggestion was the thing with the flamethrower...which wasn´t a real suggestion. Perhaps you could explain which kind of ideas you´d like to hear (cause in the suggestions forums there are lots of these...)

    or are we just talking about the fact that it would be possible to add 3 new weapons to the hud (which is cool. i like that)?
