    Using WON or Steam half-life?

update your sound card, xp, etc. also, I think theres a thing to see how much resources the ubs ports are using somewhere in windows. what else is on the usb port?

As I run a USB mic on XP and have similar problems I feel qualified to comment. Prior to going ingame open "Sound and Audio Device Properties" and click on "Audio" tab. In "Sound recording"'s dropdown box ensure your USB mic is selected, and also the "Volume" is maxxed.

So you say that when you press the talking button in HL, that speaker (or what it is) icon seems to be turning itself on/off each half second? That is strange, i think that icon is not affected by the microphone sending/not sending sounds. Have you tried to bind it to some other key?
  • theBIGonetheBIGone Join Date: 2003-02-04 Member: 13099Members
no but the strange thing is that when i put in a normal mic, via mic entrance in my onboard soundcard it works just fine. but whe i say something with voice_loopback 1, and my usb headset. for example "hello people" . only "he.. pe..le" comes trough.. i tried binding other keys, but why because another mic just seems to work. microsoft voicerecorder, records everything clearly aswell, so it must be a HL problem.

    any onther ids?

    tnx

Yeah, bind it to a different key.

Wasn't there a program that installed in a recent HL update that configured mic volume? I'm at work so I don't recall the name but it should be in the HL directory.

    Tried that yet?

    whats your cl_cmdrate?

make it like 30 should fix your cutting out problem
  • devicenulldevicenull Join Date: 2003-04-30 Member: 15967Members, NS2 Playtester, Squad Five Blue
Go into a lan game (Start NS and click create server)
Now turn on voice_loopback and try your mic
If the icon is still flashing on and off, you have a keyboard problem.
If it stays on, your config and rates are messed up.

Try this too: Options>Voice> Test Microphone
    see how that sounds

Try updating your sound card and keyboard drivers

hmm. i tried the key binding, the cl_cmdrate change, the update of my keyboard drivers, and i hava a onboard soundcard. so if there are any drivers available, i dont know where. and i also tried the langame. but with all those changes, i still get the same problem.

    i'm getting desperate

    help me

    tnx

i now bought a cheap soundcard, but still with this card.. it doesnt work..because its an usb mic. it has a soundcart intergrated in it

This is a long shot, but check for interrupt confilicts.
Run a program like Ad-Aware to scan for spyware
Are you using any special keyboard programs?
  • theBIGonetheBIGone Join Date: 2003-02-04 Member: 13099Members
I run ad-aware weekly, and it isn't a keyboard problem. when i put in a microphone with a jack plug. it works just fine. so it is a problem with the usb..

  • theBIGonetheBIGone Join Date: 2003-02-04 Member: 13099Members
yeah but that is the strange thing i have a usb headset aswell. and mine doensnt work, and it is not a problem with my pc, because i testet it on others aswell.

aarg. i've entered a same post on the steam forum, and i've noticed this is one of those problems steam has simply no answer too. do you?
  • theBIGonetheBIGone Join Date: 2003-02-04 Member: 13099Members
i'm sorry guys but i bring the problem back. it still isn't solved. is there someone with a bright idea?
  • NophelNophel Join Date: 2003-06-08 Member: 17121Members
Sorry to bring this back, but I'm having the same problem, and this guy's question was never answered.

    Basically I've tried:

    -Updates
    -Analog Mic (this works perfectly)
    -Keyboard (not the problem)
    -No hardware conflicts
    -No software conflicts
-Toyed with almost every cl command in console

Nothing seams to work. If anyone has any ideas as to how to fix the "choppyness", then I'm all ears. <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif' /><!--endemo-->

i have a similar problem, i have about 16 different audio in, its set the mic and in the hl test the mic works but in game all i see is !
  • theBIGonetheBIGone Join Date: 2003-02-04 Member: 13099Members
    thats normal..

try entering voice_loopback 1 in the console. you should hear youself. if this isn't working check if your mic isn't muted in windows
  • NophelNophel Join Date: 2003-06-08 Member: 17121Members
I've tried everything so far with no luck.

I can hear myself sometimes and sometimes not. It's not FPS related and my netgraph is always green and leveled so I'm mostly sure it's not lag or an fps problem. I can't think of anything else except Steam doing something.

    I mean my mic worked perfectly with WON. <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif' /><!--endemo-->
