It Hovars Without Flapping

and it isnt the scorpian
I read a list of updates to 2.1 before it became 3.0, or maybe some 3.0 upgrade.

Somewhere in that list it said that if you evolved to a lerk in a special way you would be able to hovar without flapping.

Was this a joke? if not, how do you do it?

    :o

It was a joke that Flayra passed around at *I think* the old playtest channel on IRC. Sadly, I don't know what the name of that channel is. I doubt it exists now though....

It works very well. It is not a joke.

The simplest way to see how the new lerk flyingmodel works is a simple experiment on the bridge over the high room wich holds vetilation-hive on ns_nothing.
Get as Lerk on the bridge and jump down with spacebar (or whatever you binded as jumpkey) pressed while looking donw to the ground. Youll fall down but if you pull you mouse back (not inverted) so that you look up 90? you will notice that your fallingspeep gets nearly completely transferred to forwardspeed, which brakes slowly. You can get in this way into the hovar state, which allows completely flappless flight for a long tme (if youre good) with only one flap every 150m. Annother hint is to move your mouse up and down slowly to fly in parables while hovaring, this extends your hovertime.

youll get it after 10min of trying.

sure, but gliding is moving while hovaring.

probably this was meant in that question.

Or we could quit call it hovar and use some proper English.

There was one beta build that allowed you to hover as lerk. As I recall it all you had to do was look stright up and get some altitude and hold down the jump button to hover, didnt tried it that much though so the method might be wrong; but it was very much possible to hover.

I can take 2 flaps and go around hera atleast 20 times before i would even touch the ground, why atleasty 20? because after that i'd get bored of just gliding around the whole map.

When I play lerk, I'm so good that I can flap by, untie a marine's shoelaces with my teeth, and flap out unseen. And THEN lets see you try and walk! Your boot would be coming off your foot every step! I do this all the time and nobody ever knows its me cuz I'm fast like ninja. They're just like COM NEED SHOELACE OVER HERE and I'm off laughing.

    So there.

Also, lerking is easy once you realize how much freedom of movement you have. Aim, tap, bite.

For those people who are reading this thread and whining about how we are butchering English you should understand...we are not USING English! We are using a language unique to NS that just happens to share many words with English.

Here is a good rule of thumb:

Unless the misspelling causes confusion as to the poster's intent (i.e. changes the meaning of the phrase), assume that THEY know what they are saying and that YOU have just found a new word to learn.

While nobody will get mad at you for spelling "turrets" the English way, don't get mad at "turrents". It is correct. You are not fluent. Read and learn.

"scorpian" "turrents" "hovars" .. man I'm sooo tired of those threads. Why do people insist on beating dead horses? Jokes don't get better the more often you tell them...
