I just hope they make the game a lot darker. I mean, I want them to really make an effort to make it such that even if you've played for a while, it still scares the hell out of you when you're attacked by aliens. That would be a feat come to think of it.
So if they're starting on NS2, is there any idea about the engine they will be using? I'm pretty sure it wont be on the HL engine as NS1 is already pushing it to its limits. What about the HL2 engine? Or others?
We can only wonder, and make limited educated guesses. Oh yes, and hope. I hope it's on HL2. And I hope Flayra read the most important ideas from I&S <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

From what we have seen posted by various offical/semioffical people:
NS2 (or what ever their next product is) is currently in early development. They don't know what engine they wana use yet (as they wana test out each first). And yes, it will rock something unbelievably hard <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

HL2 isnt even released yet. The only way there "starting it" is only an outline of what the gameplay will be like and such. Besides there also working on the betas to make NS 3.0 worth the Playtesting.
<a href='http://www.readyroom.org/flayinterview.php' target='_blank'>This interview</a> casts some real doubt on the possibility that they are working on NS2, as opposed to some other, smaller, project. In fact, Flay seems to be laying the groundwork for just that: announcing some new sort of game that will be easier for his new company to start out with.

To make it easier for our lazier members, here's the critical line from the RR.org interview apos just linked to: <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->I'm pretty sure you're going to see NS2 on some hot new engine at some point, the question is really if it's going to be our first project or not.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I think the back burner comment means Flayra trying to get his buisness up and running. He's in the stages of getting it started and it is and will consume most if not all his spare time. If Flayra really does decide not to do anything else with NS1 when he works on his next games, fear not as that this community has several talented people that are well versed in programming and I'm pretty sure some of them and some of he NS team devs will be able to release content and fixes in the future with Flayra's blessing. Remember, NS is his baby, his roots, he would love to see it continue thriving, even if he isn't the one working on it anymore.

Has Valve shown any interest in helping out? Nope.
****, i guess they just dont see the potential or community that we have. CS is just plain ****d out and the other mods are mostly run by valve anyways. hell, ill bet valve wont help out til he starts selling ns (even though it says in the interview that he never will).
thanks valve for your help and good luck with your god dam half life 2.
p.s. better get started on hl3, i want it out before i freaking die.
I see you have an excellent understanding of how buisness works Ody. Valve owes Flayra nothing, they provided the engine for the game that allowed him to really do what he wanted to do. Similarly Flayra owes valve nothing, his game propagated the longevity of valve's aging half life.
It is compleatly prosumptuous to assume that they would offically end up with eachother as buisness partners at any point. Just because CS went that road, doesn't mean that every HL mod has to strive for that kind of annexation. If Flay chooses to work with Valve thats his perogitive and I support him, if not, same deal.
I was under the impression that Flay wasn't really looking for offical support from valve for anything except getting his game running better anyways.
Gameplay-wise I was imagining NS2 closer to Planetside or Battlefield but with the graphics of the HL2 engine and smaller maps. After all, if it's a full-scale war we have to assume the Kharaa got onto a populated planet somehow.
