    Edit:
    as far as i know everyone starts at the same time as a marine in the so called "ready room", in there are portals for both teams which tleport them to the map

    from NS FAQ:
    "Is friendly fire on or off? How tournament friendly is NS?
    This is set by the server operator. There are two modes that a server can run in. "Tournament mode" and "Casual mode". Most public servers will be running in "Casual mode", where friendly fire is off, players spawn in more readily and the some of the game mechanics are a little less severe. In "Tournament mode", all players only spawn when the team can pay for it, friendly fire is on and the game is as competitive as possible. Most or all public servers will want to run in casual mode, and most or all tournaments will want to use tournament mode."

    Not my question, the readyroom is a place to "hang out" and chose your team. But before I heard of a thing were aliens would actually get 10 seconds to run around in the map before marines got to, giving aliens a possibility to ambush the marines. Now, I could easily map this and make the marine spawn encolsed with a time-controlled door, but I want to make sure that when u chose your class, u are spawned instantly (at beginning, later has no meaning to me right now) or delayed.

    On some of the larger maps, 10 secs might not mean too much. And if the marines anticipate this, they can fortify themselves, and wipe the aliens away.

    Ok, I will <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->.

    After death, you enter a respawn queae (AKA a waiting line) where in each marine spawns in between intervals, with the person who die earliest at the front of the line and the one who died latest at the bakc of the line, so the whole system is automated, no commander involved. Also, it doesnt cost a price to respwan, seeing as you already lost all that expensive equipment that you were carrying <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->.

    This is so wrong its the exact OPPOSITE of the correct facts :P

    In standard mode, respawnign is FREE, and it does not happen when the commander decides, but rather on a time interval. For marines, its one spawn per infantry portal; for aliens, its 1 spawn per hive. I think the time in between spawns is 15 seconds (give or take 5, i never really counted).

    i don't think the commander chooses WHO to respawn.

    you must have an infantry portal or a hive to respawn.

    As for the actual ropic:

    No I think every one spawns at the same time HOWEVER
    aliens sorta get a jump on moving out b/c the marines need to sit back and build up their base, if they don't they are skulk chow
  • UnknownUnknown Join Date: 2002-06-12 Member: 759Members
    As far as I know, if everyone chose a team at the same time, then they will all respawn at the same time.  But, the marines will spawn in a room attached to their base and will be stuck (doors closed) in there for a certain amount of time. (Usually 15-30secs I think)

    This is so the skulks can setup a possible ambush for the first "scout" marines.  Also it gives other skulks to evolve into gorges.  Its also a bit of a prematch mode for the marine team to deside who'll be commander.

    But really, I think the first paragraph I said is MAP defined not game defined (server variable).

    Ok maybe I should of read all the posts before replying. Now what can I say instead...I want screenies of the readyroom! <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

    To let aliens out first, would mean a good alien team with good knowledge of the area could capture every resource node and possibly siege the marines in by clogging their CC room etc.

    I know it takes time to evolve, but so does choosing commander and scouting map.

    But, since nobody (PT, dev or a know-it-all) have told me exactly, Ill wait for thursday and find out eh? =)

    I love thursdays!  <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

    The more I look at the screenshots and the more I hear about this game. I love it and can't wait.

    EDIT: This post was supposed to be in another thread. I have no clue as to how this post got into this one.
