Question
Well, from what i understand about this mod, with the aliens you can evolve up to stage 5 which are almost unstopable. My question is how do the marines handle them? I read that the damage is comparable to counter strike so wouldnt being an alien have a huge advantage?

Na, a lvl5(Onos(singular)) is like a hwguy on steriods.

YOu might not have found your answer here but there is some good info here.

Damage levels are about between TFC and CS, with the marines dealing out more TFC like damage, and the aliens dealing out CS-esque damage... (It's balanced, don't worry).

And anywho... we've got the game balanced, don't worry.

This is where teamplay and strategy come into play. If marines are faced down with an Onos, I would think they would regroup at spawn, get the commander to give em some advanced weaponry and try to take down the Onos together. If they camp out around a room of turrets, waiting for an Onos to attack, that might work if an Onos thinks he can plow through all of them. But anyways, with the right stratagies, marines usually come out on top. (I haven't put this into work yet....so chances are some of it might be wrong. For the best answers, wait for a PT)

Marines can take a Onos down. The disadvantage with an Onos is that if you stay above it, it can't get you (unless it hits you with paralyze o_O i think). I really don't think the damage would be comparable to CS unless it's like a unarmored marine. Also it takes a lot of resources to become a level 5, someone said the cost of it was equivalent to 3 HA marines plus 10 RP's. And an alien can only become a onos if they have 3 hives, so as a marine you want to try and prevent them getting 3 hives online

The balance isn't souly in which weapon/alien does however much damage. This is a RTS, not just a FPS. Therefore resource management and buildings come into play. A knight in WarCraft is stronger than the footman. But he costs more and requires advanced buildings, yah?

Same deal here.

Is the Onos more vulnerable if you shoot it from the side or the back compared to the front?
• Da_SargeDa_Sarge Old School Suck Join Date: 2002-10-15 Member: 1502Members
Nope, there are no weak spots (I forget the "official" word)
on either marines or aliens.

No hit boxes. (And don't ask for them, they make no sense with the current system. Marine have a firing cone not recoil so hits are completly randomn and aliens are melee, so it's hard to hit a specific box.)

err.. let me clarify:

there are hitboxes, those are a technical requirement for your bullets actually hitting anything :P but there is no location specific damage. i.e. a shot to the foot is the same to the head is the same to the buttox...

but of course the obvious advantage of shooting at an onos (or anything really) from behind is the fact that he/she can't see you if you are behind them :P

So there isn't any red marks on the side of your vision, like cs, to point you to where you are being shot from? Intersting...

against an ONus, get a jetpack and get up t some rafers or crates and then open up on him. Have commander sump a lot of ammo on you, you will need it to bring that rhino down.

no, you see kid C, thats where me as a fade pops up behind you on your little crate and dance the "Nelly-and-all-other-gangstas-boxing'ish-dancing-moves" but fade has large claws and that might get ugly.

Actually, I belive there is. In some of the screens I have seen, it shows those damge indicators. If you look around, you'll see them too.

that has absolutely nothign to do with location damage. Half-Life has those first, and it has no location damage at all.

Oh and no, your screen doesn't flash in NS. At least I don't think. I honestly can't remember, how wierd is that? heh.
