Bots With Pings?

<div class="IPBDescription">Is it possible/out there?</div> Just a quick question... are there bots that have real looking pings? Instead of the usual bot 0 or 5, real ones like 23, 108 and stuff? Because sometimes (I'm talking cs/dod by the way) I join a server where everyone seems to act like bots, but they don't have bot pings.

Don't think so.. why would they give bots a ping?

The only reason I could think of wanting this is to try to attract even more people to an empty server. Personally I stay away from any server that uses bots. It drives me nuts when i connect to a server only to find out that all the players are bots. Wouldn't the fact that you are intentionally trying to decieve people trigger a thought that maybe its not a good idea.

I used to run a server and never had problems populating it. I would connect when it was empty, wait 5 minutes and someone would show up. Within 15 minutes you have a full game. Server admins need to quit being lazy or just let your server be empty.

Yeah that's what I thought too... you know those servers that say they have 10 bots, but it's really just 10 bots in the ready room or spectating? Drive me nuts. When the bots are playing it's not so bad... but it still drives me nuts.

There should be a thing in half life where it tells you beforehand that a server has bots.

P.S. Does the all seeing eye work on steam? And does it know things like that? And do other 3rd party server sufers?

    There is...

...right click on the top part as shown in screenshot and select bots.

(Those are DoD servers which is why they have the VAC shield but the principle is the same for NS servers.)

Bots act like independant players to the server. That's how they are made. In this manner, it isn't like a bot could pull out a bfg and blow everyone away if he was coded to. He has to follow the rules of the game like any other player. What dictates what a bot is able to do is the exact same thing as any other player.

Likewise, just like any other player, the server pings bots. Granted, the ping is probably pretty low if not 0 because it is near instantaneous being on its own server, but there is still a slight delay from the time the server pings and the time the bot responds. That delay is what you see as the 'ping' even if technically it should be 0.

How large were the pings? Could be possible that a distant server does the bot computations and sends the data back and forth to the deticated server.

Theyw would be able to implement artificial pinging, but that value would remain static and won't really work.
