Is This Possible In 6v6?

Hive in 2min???
Considering 1 rt gives out 1 res every 4 seconds to the alien team, you start with 25 res, you get 2 res a kill, there are 6 aliens, and travel time and gestation to a hive takes say 20 seconds is it possible to get a hive up in 2min. With one rt thats 1 res per alien ever 6*4=24 seconds to start off with. If everyone but the person saving for hive puts down an rt thats 1 rt per alien, but with gestating/building/travel time thats at the 1 min mark. So 2 res in the first min and 10 res in the 40seconds after the first minute. 25+12=37 60-37=23 The alien saving for the hive would need to kill 11-12 marines in 1.7min.

I was called a noob for saying this was immpossible!!! Can someone explain the math to me.

6vs6

1 saving for hive

5 getting RTs

thats 6 RTs in approximately 40 seconds...

In the 40 seconds on 1 RT the saving alien would have amassed a grand total of 2 res...

In the next 80 seconds, with 1 RT per alien he would have gained another 20 res...

That puts him somewhere between 45-50 res on the 2min mark.

BUT if he had killed 2-3 rines in the first 100 seconds, he could already be going gorge under the hive before the 2mins is up...

Anything is possible if you believe.

Massive Rfk would be needed. It should be possible.

Chill, I've got a forum tip for you. Don't whine in new threads because people tell you something you don't agree with in another thread.

At best its whining, and at worst its just spam.

Against a good team it is impossible

I would have to say 1/2 the people in these forums(no offence) havent played the game long(been playing since 1.04) and dont know what they are talking about so I just cant stand stupid comments. The other 1/2 make good comments, things I havent thoguht of, and have read all the posts in the given topic.

I guess it might be possible if 5 cap nodes, or course a semi-competent rine team will kill most of those as they wont be defended. Not to mention in a pub setting (as was talked about in the other thread) we are probably talking larger teamsizes anyways.

Having 5 players on a six player team go gorge immediately is just asking for instant death. Of course it's mathematically possible, but it's not probable. Mathematically, it's possible to do it without any new RTs if you get 8 kills within the first two minutes and each one gives you 3 res.

As I showed in my math even if 5 rts are put down the alien saving for hive still needs to have 10 kills to place the hive at exactly 2min. Gorg+hive=60res It isnt totally impossible but if one skulk kills 10 marines in a 6v6 game in 1.5min then they are probably all in respawn cue and game si over anyways(assuming 1 ip).

Shouldnt assume just one IP; I almost never see only one IP dropped anymore :/
• Act_ChillAct_Chill Join Date: 2003-04-24 Member: 15816Members
For 6v6 though. I mean really 2 ips for 5 marines(com shouldnt die). If it is say 10v10 2 ips at the begining will be worth it.

I always find it funny when something thing playing since 1.04 somehow gives them an advantage in the latest beta 3.

Sort of like a caveman with a spear thinking he has an advantage over a man with a ballistic missile system.

Funny you'd say that; the caveman WOULD have an advantage. The ballistic missile would take them both out, whereas the caveman could just spear the missileer. Besides, it would take a good half-hour to aim, shoot, and wait for the missile to come back down on target, during which the caveman grunts, spears, and bags his dinner.

Kind of hard to do from 200 miles away.

Caveman "OMGZOR I WILL PWN JOO WITH MY ANTIQUE SPEAR!!!111"

Non-Idiot "Lets see... aim this, push this"

Caveman "N00B!! PUSHING BUTTONS IS FOR NUBS!! I'VE BEEN CHUCKING THIS SPEAR FOREVERZORZ!!!!"

Non-Idiot watches Caveman evaporate in wake of missile blast.

Respawned Caveman "OMG J00 H4X, NOONE CAN BEAT MY SPEAR"

How come nobody else saw this? Gorge plus hive costs 50 res; 10 for the gorge, and 40 for the hive. That should set you a long way to understanding how it is possible (but still not probable).
• BreakfastSausagesBreakfastSausages Join Date: 2002-12-19 Member: 11148Members
The hive costs 40 res.

I have personally started a hive at or below 2:30 in a game that was 6 players or more.

If I recall most of the team built res nodes, and I got like 6 kills on the first rush. In a perfect scenario it would only take some luck to get another kill or gain extra res for kills from the randomness (the full 3 points for most of the kills).

I think a 2 minute hive is possible in 3.0 but it would need a fairly perfect scenario.

PS:

The caveman VS. missile scenario is a very poor analogy. A much more accurate comparison would be 2 guys both with missiles. They have both been trained to use the current missile system. But one has only been using missiles for a few weeks, whereas the other has experience using every previous missile system leading up to the current one.

Problem with using all the old systems is that sooner or later you're going to screw up because you're sticking to the "old way".

My workplace has several databases and I've lost count of the mistakes the older staff have made purely because they've been thinking about the older systems. There's something to be said for a fresh outlook.

Or simply proper training ...
• NecrosisNecrosis The Loquacious Sage Join Date: 2003-08-03 Member: 18828Members, Constellation
But they have been properly trained, on several systems stretching back several years.

On our forums we still see some vets and players from 1.04 making reference to things that were removed or adjusted, or trying to use old out of date strats and then complaining about how they don't work anymore.

So again, I have to say there's something to be said for new players. I've been around for a while but still find it handy to hear new players opinions since they're looking on it with fresh eyes.

Looks like your on the wrong track.

Anyway in relation to the topic, I think the 2minute time should start after you've finished the first two minutes of mass shock and awe skulk rushes

A 3 minute slot is an ideal goal.
• DementedDemented Join Date: 2003-07-30 Member: 18573Members
Consider a different scenario:

6v6 game.
3 aliens get rts. 1 saves for hive, 1 for dcs and the last one for fade.
In the first 40 seconds, aliens have to rt.
1 rt gives 1 res to the team every 4 seconds.
In 40 seconds each alien would have gained 10/6 res, which roughly equals to 2 res.
In the next 80 seconds, 1 res is given to the team every 1 second.
In 80 seconds each alien would have gained 80/6 res, which rounded up is equivalent to 13 res.
Therefore, the alien saving for a hive would have gained 25+2+13=40 res in the first 2 minutes.
However, he requires 50 res for a hive as he needs to gorge as well.
Each kill gives 2 res on average. The alien needs 5 kills in 2 minutes to get the 10 res. Thats one kill every 24 seconds (quite hard to achieve).

ASSUMING HE DOES NOT GET ANY KILLS AND STILL NEEDS 10 RES
To get the 10 res he has to wait for another 60 seconds. (Of course this assumes that no rts are destroyed).
So, there you have it. A 3 minute fade with a second hive in progress.

Well, for a definitive answer....

Considering that you manage to kill 10 marines at the first minute (that includes respawning marines) then you would manage to get at most, 30 resources. Throw in the random resource pile, and it will take approx 2 minutes for you to achieve it, or less than a minute if you happened to save from getting RTs.

Technically it's possible, but only if you get max RFK for the first 10 marines in the first minute.

Its possible, likely is another story all together though.
