[wip] Mechaskulk

My version of the robot kharaa
I know theres already been a roboskulk, but I've been meaning to do this for quite a while already, months before the roboskulk was released. Seeing it made me wanna start this so I've begun working on it.

it's just a work in progress and there will be details I am going to include, but this is basically how it looks as of this moment. The 'discs' you see on it's hips/shoulders will likely be replaced with the same kind of texture on the skulk's forearms, and the front claws will need fixing. Work on the pipes will be done at a later stage, but for now, thats pretty much what they will look like.

    i dont believe that it's a new model, just a re-skin. am i correct?

BTW, it needs work, but it's on the right track. keep it up.

at least it's a reskin, and not a typical skin hack.

Alrighty, this is more or less what the final version will look like. I'm probably gonna tweak the actual skin of it to try and make it look more metallic, but as far as joints and details go, that's about it.

...which is why im probably gonna make a full conversion pack for the aliens.

we can say these were built by the TSA for use in training marines under realistic kharaa situations! wee! go backstory!

but man, you gotta see this critter in action. I'm quite pleased.

It looks pretty cool, keeps it more like it's original color.

Increasing the contrast and doing an overlay of the highlights (set to "screen") may help it to look more metallic.

Also, don't forget custom sounds. (: You might consider opening up the reference SMD in some modeling program and playing with the smoothing groups to make it look less organic. If you don't have the program or ability (if you're just a skinner), I'm sure someone could take care of it for you.

yeah, all I have to use is HLMV and PS, so I can only make skins.

unless hlmv can do that on it's own, i cant add triangles over anything, otherwise i would have done so sooner.

    :O

Looks pretty damn good! I'd have to say though, you need someone to mess around with teh smoothing groups, or we will have alien mechs that don't look too mech-ish

And a question for you, could you send me the mech-skulk skin?(aka PM) I'd like to see what I'd be able to do with it. And I will bet my left nut that I will use it only for personal use (Yes, my left is precious, but the right is moreso)

EDIT : Well, I've given a shot at it, and I could only get the eyes and the orb to look decent....if only I had a skinmesh then it would help.....too bad I can't see what skinmeshes are supposed to look like though ^^; So nevermind about the skinmesh

I think it's looking really slick, can't wait to see the others you do, if you do the pack.

EDIT: I'm a newbie, I didn't realize there was a second page till I posted this. That gorge is looking just as good as the skulk! GW once again.

Edges need more contrast and defining to make them look mech-ish. Think of using the Dodge and Burn tool to artificially bevel the edges
