[fix] missing required mod

this may just be one of many causes

I think it's caused when your client is unable to communicate with the Steam Workshop, I was reading this method for speeding up the Steam ingame browser and I am pretty sure it's related.

TL;DR: [ Control Panel / iexplore.exe >> Tools ] Internet Options > Connections Tab > LAN Settings > Uncheck Automatically Detect Settings

it speeds up Steam overlay browser and hopefully fixes some connectivity issues too

edit: another possible fix is unsubscribing to certain mods. I have had "sewlek's balance mod" subscribed and it has occasionally prevented me from joining servers. tested by simply unsubscribing, restarting, and joining that server.

I'll give it a shot. Don't get the error frequently though, so won't know if it's working or not

Anyone have any luck with this? I've been searching for a fix to this for a while now, but the only thing anyone ever tells me is to download them manually.. (I know that's a workaround, I want a FIX!)

This is more of an issues on the Steam Workshop side and is something that people will have to go to Steam about. Steam Workshop is still fairly new, so I am sure this is an issue they are aware of and are attempting to fix.

I also did the internet options suggestion in the first post and now I am no longer getting the "Missing Mod Required" error, with no download.

(This is me confirming the fix suggested works)
