I'm too lazy to open new tabs, imbed the urls would you? While you're at it, give a TL;DR so I have something to think about during the videos.
A doctor in the Medical Wing with one blank eye beat me to death with a rake, shouting “It’s just... a standard... procedure!,” then made a verbal note of my time of death.

Excellent stuff. I often get looked at strangely when I list Starship Troopers as one of my favourite movies. Many disregard it as a light-hearted action romp.

THE WAR ON BUGS is a study of social and political themes in the classic Paul Verhoeven / Ed Neumeier film Starship Troopers. Explores the film's relationship with totalitarianism in left and right politics, the war on terror, cultural fascism and military brainwashing.

I thought it was just awesome B-movie cheese :(

I know the lot of you will roll your eyes, but read the book. It's Heinlein so you should know it's good all ready without there being a movie made of it. Also the plot of the movie and book are completely different; the only thing they share are the political structure of their society.

It's not an easy balance to achieve, but we do want to make a game that will be both the best competitive game since Starcraft and also one that many people can enjoy casually without being in a clan or an experienced or knowledgeable NS player. That's the goal at least!

They blocked all the videos? Why'd they do that? Clearly this was not a ripping their IP off or anything. Are you kidding me?

I am very conflicted about Starship Troopers. First off, I admit to Complaining About Books I Don't Read, with my main attempt at justification being that it seems like an Ayn Rand-esque Author Tract, which I do not have the slightest desire to read. I despise Ayn Rand's books by the way, and haven't read a single one of those either.

I like the movie, however, as it is an excellent satire of militarism. The director, Paul Verhoeven, practically admits that he deliberately took a ###### all over what the book stands for (and didn't even finish reading it), which my inner troll finds hilarious. My glee is dampened, however, when I imagine how I would feel if someone treated a book I loved like that.

Here is the thing about Heinlein books: they are fantastic thought experiments that raised the level of discourse of science fiction. Also he is a very good author, neither getting you lost in detail, nor leaving you behind by cutting necessary explanation. You will not agree with all of the political premises he uses for his fictional societies, but they are not arbitrary like monarchy in space, or hive mind emperor, or chancellor dictator. He lucidly explains how his societies evolved to the point they reached and the logic behind why the status quo is maintained or in jeopardy. The disagreements that you have with his societies will probably be more subtle than you think.
