IIRC, the reset was not just zeroing everyone's elo (that would make a lot of rounds totally bad). They assigned slightly different numbers, probably adding 1000 or 2000 because I remember my skill didn't change that much from the initial value but …

Well, yeah, that's a real issue. How about a more intelligent system that prevents players that break the balance too much from joining? If a slot is open you can only join if you attribute to making the balance more fair, not the opposite. Maybe wi…

See, it can always be told without any offence. Like, dude, we don't know if you smurf or just was away for 10 years and is still able to maintain your skill because you're godlike or whatever BUT please play on lower skill servers to fix your elo g…

(Quote) Should we? If a player single handedly kills the game for 21 other players should we tolerate that for whatever reason? I don't think so. He may play on the servers that suit his "badge skill" at least. The "new" adagrad algorithm should …

Never seen that but seen a lot of smurfs with low elo and (now) green badges who have K/D > 2 and are close to the top in the end of the round. They usually go with "what's smurfing?" or "I'm just good that's all in Update 323 - Shadow Onos Roars into Play - Natural Selection 2 Comment by rkfg August 2018

(Quote) The hands are barely at fault IMO. It's the brain that shows its age, the neural paths getting clogged and such. Still, I think playing competitive, fast, team-based and reaction favoring shooters could help with Alzheimer's and stuff. Ju…

Well — the game sure is fast and requires a good reaction. It's not for everyone. Most encounters with skulks end in just 1-2 seconds so yeah, it's not like you have much time to plan your actions in those situations. I totally don't feel like I'm a…

bork, I guess your main problem is lack of teamplay and overall low player skill. This is a team game, it doesn't encourage players to rambo their way in. Usually, in one on one encounters aliens win with a few exceptions:
- skulk vs LMG — LMG… -
Do you also play on Linux? It's a linux-specific issue, it was causing some troubles before like freezes when you scroll web content inside the overlay. I managed to "unfreeze" the game by attaching to its process with GDB and then detaching. IIRC, …

It's been disabled a couple of builds ago, I don't know the exact reason but yes, please bring it back! I can't even add a friend on Steam if I see a good player. My only option is to go to the recent players list and try to find them there and that…

Look at the skilled lerks as a marine and learn from them. It's hard to learn to aim, true, but aliens usually dominate with tactics, patience and unpredictable movements. As a lerk, you have to move as randomly as you can while still flying towards…

Like I said, it definitely was an issue before (maybe a year or two ago) but then it has been fixed on the NVIDIA side (yes, the driver devs can detect if the game with known bugs is running and use workarounds so it doesn't crash or glitch). I don'…

This was an issue for me long ago on a very old driver. Post your hardware configuration and Xorg/kernel/NVIDIA driver versions. I play every day and have no crashes whatsoever.

Does anyone get framerate drops and microfreezes (which is essentially the same)? I'm playing on The Thirsty Onos daily and noticed this, especially when a lot of action happens. Before today's patch it was all smooth. This could be because of mods …

Frozen again on mapload, the trace is a bit different this time:

Yes, here it is. If anyone else has a Github account, I think it would be good to upvote the bug (as I did) for better visibility!
-
Good, thanks for confirming! I'm not sure if it's vanilla or NS2+, which is installed virtually everywhere, so maybe it's not a right place to report this bug.
-
Steam server browser does that, it has the "Quick refresh" button that only updates the server info without reloading the list. Pretty handy if you already have your favorites populated.

I'm pleasantly surprised that aside of the menu bug, symlinks and that one-time (probably physics-related) crash the Linux version is very stable! I mean, any startup-related stuff is not that important once resolved, it's the mid-game crashes that …

I don't quite understand why it is hard to fix. If you click another server the popup disappears and reappears with that server info, the bug doesn't happen. It just should do the same if you click the selected server. I'd prefer the popup always "b…

(Quote) This dependency actually comes from libSDL2. Here's the output of an extremely useful tool lddtree (I use it as well for my own C++ software to check what real dependencies of the binary are):As for libsndio, on my Debian it's present supposedly because of a lot of other libs and programs depending on it. Particularly, mpv, mplayer, libavdevice57 (and ffmpeg transitively). It's a bit hard to find the license info but in Update 318 - 64-Bit Release - Natural Selection 2 Comment by rkfg October 2017Thanks, @McGlaspie ! The game is working fine now. I had to reverify the game files and remove the "cache" and "Workshop" directories as it couldn't find some of the NS2…The problem with the menu seeems to be caused by this:
[ 2.747] MainThread : Error: lua/menu/GUIMainMenu.lua:3711: attempt to call field 'GetOSBitType' (a nil value) [Client] Scr…
The right commands (please fix on Steam too):
ln -s libfmodevent64-4.44.58.so libfmodevent64.so
ln -s libfmodeventnet64-4.44.58.so libfmodeventnet64.so
ln -s libfmodex64-4.44.58.so libfmodex64.soGood, the best way to fix the faulty code is indeed to remove it (no irony)! I have several GCC and G++ installed, from 5 to 7, but it's a kinda weird requirement for an end user. Maybe you mean libstdc++ that's often the source of issues? Thanks. Can I at least get a confirmation of this behavior? It could be something on my side, in that case I'll try reinstalling Steam or mess with other things.Holy crag, what the shift happened to this thread? I smell some shady tactics clogging up here resulting in a gorgeous babbling web.
PS: I feel I'm gonna get whipped for this...I think displaying the average and standard deviation is enough. Although of course the actual rating values are known to the game and due to its high moddability they could be shown for those interested.(Quote) Thanks for the clarification, I didn't know about such things.
