Also this would be pretty ineffective since players join and leave servers during rounds, it's not like DOTA or Starcraft where team sizes are fixed and teams don't change during a game. Would work for gathers but I don't think it's feasible for pub…

OK, I am coming round to your side on some of those things - the res display, if done neatly, sounds good. The MAC area thing would be OK I guess, would probably require a decent amount of dev time that could be spent better elsewhere, though.

Exos with welders sounds like a bad idea, one of the main features that make exos balanced is that they have to keep their support marines/MACs alive or they are screwed.
