If you really get desperate, use console to turn on invincibility and kill it with the knife.

Remember once you have a PRAWN and drill arm you can get more silver than you know what to do with. Not much help in the early game though.

@Tarkannen - in case you haven't tried, I did scan the vending machine on Aurora, build one in my base and get snacks out of it.

Hardcore works for me, as long as I don't try to save/quit to menu. Save/quit to desktop is safe.

I've had similar bugs in the past, where a game I know I've not played more than a couple hours on will show in the load menu as 18 hours, for example.

You should probably still start a new game if you want to experience everything they've put in.
