Without any additional info (i.e. what's your GPU, which CPU did you go from and to, what did you see in the r_stats 'waiting for GPU' line during normal gameplay, etc) its hard to say why a new CPU didn't improve your performance. By and large, NS2…

Now we just need an Oculus Rift with OLED.

(Quote) Then you'll be waiting a long time because APUs are far from being powerful enough to run any modern game at any decent framerate or quality.

Like in the CPU department vs Intel, I just hope AMD can release a GPU that's good enough to keep Nvidia honest. Its doubtful we'd have seen the type of performance jump of the GTX Titan had Nvidia not been at least a little fearful of competition f…

As I've said before, I would love to see the toolset get some love. While modding/mapping/modeling is possible in NS2, its a much more frustrating experience than it could be.

Include plushies with a $100+ tier and they'll sell like hotcakes.

(Quote) 1. Meet up outside marine base
2. All go gorge
3. Rush base, place hydras, build them all up
4. Win

(Quote) That's pretty much what happened in practice when it was in the beta. More often then not, marines were hurting themselves more than helping with door welding.

I'm not sure how useful this strat will be in practice as its my experience that which res nodes you can build are mostly limited by the ones you can protect from marine attack rather than any limitation from cysting/infestation. At best, nano is pr…

(Quote) I guess I should have clarified that I meant comm-bots when no one else wants to comm, rather than to replace the comm.
Also, the 'strategic' component of NS2 is pretty bare compared to most RTS games. There are far fewer choi… -
Best solution imo: Comm-bots
They don't have to be good as long as they allow the game to proceed (drop RTs, research upgrades, etc). It would be a bit of work, but would pay much more in dividends of less frustrating public matches. -
(Quote) Since NS2 isn't really a deathmatch game, its how your individual skill contributes to the team victory rather than racking up your score that matters. Having a skill rating system that shows how high of a KDR you can get is a rather usel…

(Quote) This is exactly backwards. W:L is the only thing that adequately captures the complexity of NS2 since its the primary objective of each game. It doesn't have to be the only thing used to measure skill, but it should be a major component. …

(Quote) I think your underestimating how the dynamics change from small playercount comp to large playercount pub. When you have to med/nano 10+ players rather than only 5, the value of forgoing armor for weapons is greatly reduced.

If your marines can shoot = w1 (really only relevant for high-level comp play)
If your marines can't shoot = a1 (prevents 2 bite+para and adds extra cushion against lerks) -
(Quote) High-end, Intel is king. But in the budget CPU area (<$150) AMD has some great value. If you wanted to make a decent $600 gaming PC, then AMD is your best bet. However, with a $900 budget, its worthwhile to go with a higher end Intel C…

Since pretty much all games have playercount limits, I'm not sure why NS2 having one is that big of a deal. AFAIK, the original plan was to be like NS and have the limit be 32. However, due to performance and balance issues, it was limited to 24 jus…

(Quote) Sometimes, those bugs are due to mods who override the fixed lua files with older ones. Others are due to the extremely weird and hard to track down nature of some of them. In general, the long-term bugs are more often annoying rather tha…

You are more likely to need more CPU power than more RAM for higher performance.

Going down this list, looks like the best GPU in your price range is a HD 4870.

(Quote) What virsoul is saying is that this only works against stupid marines. However, if your fighting stupid marines, then many absurd strategies are viable, not just hiding upgrades in weird but exposed spots. Instead, its best to assume your…

My feeling is:
1. Get whatever upgrade you want (shift or shade seem to be the most common)
2. Get gorge tunnels
3. Rush bilebomb (i.e. biomass 3 + gorge ups)
After that you need to play it by ear depending on what the … -
