Btw, I'm pretty sure we'll be doing early access sooner than a year or two.

I love this idea. I was thinking of something similar (inspired by the evil hedges from The Shining), where the player must keep the creature in sight while they move. I think it could create really rich behaviors and some interest… -
Very awesome, Ryan.
I think it would be cool if we used this as a base and then tweaked it to fit the art vision. It's an alien planet, after all. -
Man it would be awesome if you guys could put a bit more work and polish into it and release with a big splash standalone.

Yes Ryan (moultan), we're going to procedurally animate a lot of the vegetation, tentacles, etc.

I find that I keep calling the world itself, Subnautica.

Interesting question.
I hope that the game feels more like a "personal journey", instead of loneliness. Especially if you can put on the Occulus Rift and go on a deep dive, I think the solitude could be a powerful aspect to the game.
Nebusculous - You read our minds. We do NOT want to take a long time with this game. NS2 was very draining, so we'll be scoping down heavily to get something into your eager hands sooner rather than later. Our plan is to have lots of interesting interactivity - grabbing a slime with a mechanical arm, hitching a ride from a Glowhale, triggering a Bulletfish so it poisons and slows a creatures that's chasing you. But we're not interesting in having play…Willow512, you are officially, DA BOMB. What an imaginative and alluring post!
That's the kind of feel we're going for. You hit the nail on the head. We're not ready to talk about about what Max, Dushan, Brian, etc. are working on...I thought long and hard about the space vs. underwater theme. The game actually DID start out in space, but we made the decision to go underwater for a few reasons.
I'm writing up a blog post about "Why are we making Subnautica", which y…WOOT! So pumped for this. We have the BEST community.
I hope to see you all in Cologne. We're so happy to be able to give something back to the game community!Cool blog update Hugh.
I use a combination of PC and Mac hardware - as much Mac as possible, especially for creative stuff. I also like to work in different places, so a laptop and iPad are awesome for that.
I think the next …(Quote)
Agreed. I think we'll be able to do this shortly (looking into it).
