Been there, as recently as 3-4 years ago. Their 7000 series is pretty good and since it's current gen, AMD will quickly address bugs. A 7000 series purchase should be good through 2015. -

Can't drop a Comm chair in a hall wall/vent. Set-up a base in Nano. JP+GL a Hive as the last man standing.
Can't survive as the last Gorge (self-spray), no Hives, sneak into a Hive room and drop a hive.

Really? If a Lerk was hiding, once you found them, you could almost immediately take out half their health or kill them. Sounds like a losing battle. Going off benchmarks for the E8600 vs your current CPU, I'd say no, unless you get it for under 40 bucks or trade.

I don't think you should count the build time with a Ninja PG. It's usually 1-2 Marines sneaking it up, so the time should start when they attack anything in the Hive.
