Gorge Looking For A Good Time

Great personality
So I have this problem... I just can't enjoy playing aliens on pubs any more.

I like teamplay, but I hate getting stuck with the "permgorge" role. No one ever thanks you for the job, they just demand more chambers while they go fade and onos.

Every single game, I tell people to immediately cap a res node or a defense (or other if agreed upon) chamber. Yet, I only see one res tower dropped and no one drops any chambers. I try to amass enough early-game RFK to get to 50, then go to drop the hive... about the same time, 3 fades and an onos spring up. We still only have two nodes and only one DC, yet people spend all of their res on themselves.

I'm just disgusted with it; especially when we lose because of it. We'll have a ton of electrified marine nozzles, but the fades don't bother taking them down. The res is trickling in ridiculously slowly, and there's four free nozzles near our hive... yet some guy has 65 res and says "10 res til I go onos!"

Do people honestly think that a single-hive fade is infinitely more effective at killing marines than two-hive skulks with MC and DC while gorges bile bomb? Would it kill them to play skulk a -little bit longer- if they spent their res on buying the team another resource tower?

By the time we get enough res to go fade or onos after dropping all the chambers for the team, the game is already over and we don't get to see the fruits of 20-minutes hiding behind an OC while dropping chambers and hives.

So, if anyone else has this problem, what do you do? Every time I try to tell my team mates to straighten up their act, they run to that excuse of "Don't tell me how to play the game, nub gorge! I have a lot more kills than you!"

I love being a perma/battal gorge, but that is just my opinion I guess. If no one thanks for the stuff, eh, no big deal to me. Although I do agree that people are umm somewhat selfish if they do not realize that NS classic is a TEAM game, not much one can do about it.

I would suggest another server. Some servers still have good teamwork on both sides, and have yet to be totally infected with res whoring noobs. I'll be the first to make a suggestion for a server, guns4back2school server #1. It's big, 28 players, but good teamwork all around, and near equal victories for both teams.

Okay here is a secret: When you have a team of uncooperative selfish marines(EDIT - Since when is that word that starts with a W and ends with and e, 5 letters long.. filtered?), then you might as well find another server right then. If, on the other hand, it is merely a bad day on a server you regular, I suggest making sure there is a good admin presence to enforce a no res whoring rule when the team needs something. Other than that until there is a "Slay-Idiot" command you are out of luck. "No .. oh well we are so l33t without any chambers only noobs need those things"

My suggestion ... get on gamesurge and join the #nspug channel over mirc. Join a pug (pick up game). Be a gorge and be appreciated/protected/loved. End of story.

I used to hate gorging, I always felt the same way, but lately I've been getting used to it, I've been practicing up my skills as a gorge in the middle of the fight (using NS:C) and I've managed to acquire some reasonable skills for wargorging. On top of that, I've managed to secure a position within my clan of always gorging, partly because I can't do anything else with any skill whatsoever, and partly because I am fairly trustworthy to get done what needs to be done (in my opinion. The people that fight me say I'm less dangerous and more annoying ) Either way, I take pride in my role, and I hope that you can make the same transition, and learn to enjoy the job which others seem to have placed upon your shoulders. Believe me, there are few people with the decency to gorge for the team.

    Find a new server.

I suggest voogru.com Hive #1. At the start of most rounds on Aliens we have people saying "Ill save for DCs" "Ill save for the Hive" "Everyone Gorge and drop an RT," and for the most part, people do. Sure, you get your occasional punk that doesnt and just Onos **** and dies in 3 seconds, but the beautiful thing is that if an Admin see its, then its bye bye moron.

Also, Ive taken up thanking Gorges for their work and giving them secks for DCs/MCs/SCs. Feel the <3 on Hive 1.

    Its called arrogance.*

The world is filled nearly to the brim with the lovely stuff.

Bottom line - "People" Want to kill stuff, they dont want to spend 2 mins watching themselfs gorge and drop something then build it.

"They" are too arrogant to learn that its better, or "they" just dont care.

You have little, to no way of making "them" do anything.**

/me gets HA and HMG, Humps Armory, walks into an onos, knifes it, gets digested, quits game.

    /me shrugs "Dunno mate."

    Keep it fluffy.

    1. there is nothing bad in losing, play like RAF and play only for fun.

    2. skrew this "permgorge" if your team dosent want to help out as a team, then they deserve no victory, let the marines stomp all over them, and when ailens lose, tell them "ailens, sad, NS are for teamwork, without it, this will happen, im pretty sure you can live without being onos.

    3. you my friend, are in no case a noob, kills have nothing to do with it, and score means nothing according to skill, if you play on that server again, or see anyone saying this, tell them this.

    4. http://www.penny-arcade.com/images/2001/20010126l.gif show this to the ppl in #3 tell them it really will happen. see how they react

    5. might i suggest a new server, seeing holocauset is now fatherland custom maps dod try these three, do note that freaks and Lords Of Chaos's server is useually full and gamestein is useually empty

come to #nspug on gamesurge (irc) for an organized pickup game. everyone has to work as a team unless they want to be utterly destroyed. also, most players are very experienced.

the environment is much better than pubs.

... If I gorge all I expect of my teammates is to fullfil their part i.e. combat the marines. When they fail it makes me sad.

I used to gorge on pubs, and I was the "drop a node" motivator, but I just kinda slacked off, but I will always gorge when needed.

In my opinion, thats where 1.04 shined out against the new builds. ONE GORGE. This guy did ALL the work, and you COULD spend the res on yourself, instead of people not even helping the aliens, and hoarding all the res.

I often find myself falling into the gorge role. I'm not much of a skulk player, so I often decide to just stay gorge and save up for more RTs, chambers, hive, etc. It's not neccessary if your team is good (for a pub game) and actually gets 4+ RTs up quickly. You still need chambers and stuff, but you can save up while a skulk. Generally, at three hives + full chambers and a good number of RTs, I give up the gorge for lerk/fade/onos.

On a good team, you still should have one or two people going for the early fade (maybe onos). Electrified RTs and shotguns can make it difficult to keep the marines under control as a skulk.

The biggest problem with going gorge is not the res cost for me, for I love skulking, but just the time it takes to gestate. It's so annoying.

I would much prefer just spending 10 res, becoming gorge in less then a second, dropping some stuff, and getting back into combat.
  • BenaiahBenaiah Join Date: 2003-11-11 Member: 22517Members
yes i have found that this is becoming a common occurance on pub servers. However a ban approach always works.
Fade with no chambers = autokick,
Onos no chambers or 1 hive autokick.

Its so funny to see them join again and cry about their lost res, then watch them get flamed so much they leave the server and change their nick so ppl will talk to them again.

The point is that its not fair to expect one person to carry the team. And now with the res evenly distributed a team needs many gorges to cap res and put up chambers. **** ruin the game and annoy the team.

    Go back to CS lamers
  • ASnogarDASnogarD Join Date: 2003-10-24 Member: 21894Members
Don't know if this will work on other servers but on the one I frequent there is a unofficial law, basically goes like this:

At start every alien MUST cap one nozzle, those that fail are newbs(nubs, noobs, whatever). This results in a flurry of skulks rushing like crazy to get to the nearest res point to go gorge, cap and go back to skulk. Too slow and you find yourself trying to cap a nozzle too close to marines.

Basically a player that tries to res **** is flamebait and gets razzed without mercy, to the point that player leaves.
There are of course exceptions, example you won't get razzed if you are putting up OC's at double while a fellow gorge is capping, or OC's at chokepoints to slow down marine rush, etc etc (ie tactical considerations are an escuse for not capping, but going fade or onos early is not acceptable - cap early and you are free to get kills for res to go fade).

This 'no cap = noob' system works fine in a server where a lot of the players are regulars, new players soon learn the system.

And the rest of the team goes fade, onos, lerk, whatever. Okay, understandable; aliens always need those. But when I see that one, oh, two, no; four tagged eRT's standing half of the game, it kinda makes me wonder what the hell they are doing.

Until noticing that in the team list, between all those skulks, I'm the only gorge.

Generally... the best defense against res whoring players is to just find a server. I got lucky, and found a server a few months back that has regulars, and everyone generally works together. Sure you'll get the stray noob or "i don't need to help you bceause im uber 1337" but they are quickly kicked or learn the ways of TEAMWORK. That's why I quit CS so long ago... there is no such thing as teamwork on about 90% of public CS servers (to me at least). I started playing CS and saw that you can't go rambo style, and that it is all about working with your team to win.

You can always tell you played a great game when everyone says GG at the end
  • RedWingateRedWingate Join Date: 2004-03-15 Member: 27349Members, Constellation
Sure yours team needs all those Onos and Fades - But as you in the most cases don't even have three camber and your 1337 onos/fades die after killing an average of 1-2 rines - which means they wasted around 41-72 Res - ...... *some flameing here*

The reason this happens is that aliens have become less and less pub friendly ever since 2.0. The new gorge system simply doesn't work in a low-communication environment, and pub aliens suffer greatly because of it. I greatly preferred the single gorge system; not only was gorging more fun, but a second gorge was much less common than an unwillingness to gorge is now.

I don't play on real pubs anymore(i.e. the ones without admins and lots of regulars). If I did I would have quit NS months and months ago. The game just doesn't really work on pubs anymore IMHO and it's sad to see.

if you ask me, ailens need 1 or 2 early fades or onos' the rest should build.
this is what BAH did to us, and they were only playing around with us like toys.
sometimes tho, if you have a well coordinated fade rush, marines dont stand a chance. but neither would you if you didnt win within 5 mins.

Yeah, I find that the "drop some stuff or I'll get sensory" trick works well.

Good players know how to use sensory, and you'll never have to threaten them with it as they'll be helping you anyway.

People that don't help the team often don't know how to use any chamber other than defence and will crumble in fear at the thought of having to learn to play the game.
