My first map
Before you go flaming me for the noobness of this map... please understand that it is my first map... ever... for any game. It started out as just something to play with and learn, then it turned into a fun map, then I tried to make it more serious... but it's not. It's basicly a long huge hallway with the hive at one end in a room, and the marines at one end in a room. There's some stuff in the middle so you can not see all the way, it keeps the FPS up.

co_tunnel:

The first screenshot is the alien hive room. In the background in that window is the ready room. I always thought it would be interesting to be able to see the game from the readyroom... The glass is pretty thick too, so no /stucking.

The second screenshot is another angle of the hive. There is a ladder in the back that takes marines from top to bottom, only the side facing the wall works. I tried to keep people from getting about halfway up and shooting the hive from that...

The third shot is of the large hallway between the rooms. There are pipes and things to keep people from looking all the way through, which would lower FPS. There's also a bridge for no reason, and ladders that go up.

The fourth is another angle of that room. You can see the readyroom again.

Here is the marine spawn. I think I did ok on the driveways that go up and down. There's also ladders to get down too so marines do not have to go all the way around.

The last shot is another angle of the spawn. Theres a little area marines can climb up to near the pipes if they want... I dont know why they would, but the opportunity is there. There's also ladders that go to the very bottom right next to the ramps up.

If anybody wants the zip file, I am going to ask the leader of my clan if it's ok if I link to the zip I posted there. But, you probably do not want it anyway.

One thing I found though, it is a lot of fun to fly around as a celerity lerk, as you can just type +jump in the console, take off from a high spot, and never stop.

Yes... I know it's very big. That's because I didn't realize how big the things in the editor were in game. At first, I thought it would be smaller.

And I could not figure texture lights out... I tried repeatedly. It wa giving me errors.

If you dont know why you maps are too big / small try my tip: Create an Info_player_start somewhere on your map and the you can see the player scale and you can make walls after the scale. So no walls need to big enorm huge and same everywhere. G00d Luck with the map. Nice readyroom

Well i'd say its pretty good for a first attempt at mapping in any game ever...

Obviously the size thing is an issue, but it doesnt really look too bad. I know I've done worse things in my time

I like the ready room idea, but it doesnt appeal massively as I like maps with some background and realism, and story behind everything being where it is - obviously as it started as a mess around, then a fun map, then more serious it couldnt really have been helped - but keep up the work!

Not a bad map at all, for your first attempt.
I see you have adopted some good ideas, with the pipes etc.
Also you have used some infestation near the hive, which is also a nice little feature.
The scale is a tad on the large side, but thats a minor error.
The architecture looks solid, if not a little basic.
The lighting seems average, which is good. But try and experiment, might spice the mood of the map up.

    Altogether a good starting map.
    Build on your errors.
    good luck.

    Thanks everybody.

Naigel, thanks. That actually makes sense compared to some of the others I've read.

Oh, and I want to thank everyone for all the tutorials in the Mapping Help and Troubleshooting Forum. All very good and made it much easier. My next map will be much better, I've already come up with some ideas.

I think the dark room with ladders has some atmosphere. Looks a bit scary, maybe because of the huge size. I think the readyroom from where you can see others playing is a fun idea too, althought I have already seen something similar in some maps.
