I first started playing on an Atari 2600 that I still have, my first computer game was either Sim City or X-Wing, I like to think it was Xwing but I don't know anymore....

I didnt start using computers until school started in 1990 (for reference, i was born in 1984).

Played the school's crappy educational games until like 1994 when we got a PC at home (never got into consoles, I cant adjust to their unwieldy controllers). Started playing 2D platform shooters, duke nukum and the like. Got Internet in 1996, our school didn't even have it back then, and my parents spent like 5hrs/night chatting (and they think I spend far too much time online.... I don't know anyone with lower ICQ numbers than my parents!).

In 1998 or sometime around then I was introduced to FPS - I played Duke Nukem 3D, Quake, Doom, and the like (never played Wolf3D though) and the HL Uplink demo. Got into multiplayer when I met Kaine through a mutual friend later that year - only played at LANs but I quickly got good at deathmatch, especially with the Quake3 Test (I owned q3test2) and Unreal Tournament Demo (owned DM-Turbine, was the first game/map I beat Kaine on). Skill-wise we've been a pretty good match for each other ever since. In 2000 I changed high schools and went to a LAN with new friend's I'd made. Slowest computer, fastest network card (they all used coax, I rocked up with a 10/100 card and hub and forced them to use cat5). And I owned them all. Yay me <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I didn't start playing online until a couple years ago, I've never had an internet connection fast enough to support it but I used to go to a friend's house and use his ADSL on occaision (and ADSL only came on in that area maybe 3 years ago...)

Meh. Enough of my life story, I have a lecture to get to....

My first video gaming experience that I recall is Pitfall on the good ol' Atari. I also remember my mother selling the system and at least two dozen games at a flea market for $20.

A friend of mine still has an Atari but it doesn't work anymore. I offered to fix it for him (numerous times), but he always refuses, says he wants to "preserve this relic of his childhood intact as-is". <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Pity. I'd love to play an authentic game of Pitfall using the original console. On a big-screen television. With surround sound.

I played my first game in 1993, with my Grandparents(they love puzzle games almost TOO much...), trying Tetris. I hated it, but I loved the idea(and super mario 3 which they had!!!). I only played there, and in 95, I got a Super Nintendo. By 96, I sold it for a Genesis. Then in 97(or 98...) I got a NS64. Then, in November of 98, I got a PC. 99, Everquest(that was my FIRST ONLINE MULTIPLAYER GAME. Heh. screw 'steps'). Then, I got HL in 2000, and played only TFC(being I was on a dialup modem). Just kept going then, getting N64 games and stuff until PS2, which I got a year and a half after it came out. Then got a gamecube, then got into NS, then got a X-Box, got heavy on the NS forums, then sold the gamecube, and then got DSL internet, and finally, I've kept up with the mod scene since then, and...yeah.

    *end history of Q*

I only really got stuck into them around 1995 (I would have been 10 or 11) but I'd played a bit (and watched my dad play a <i>lot</i>. For some reason I never wanted to play, myself) pretty much ever since I could comprehend what a computer game was. Certainly as far back as I can remember. My first real game was Dune II <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

[edit]Oh, I forgot about the Intellivision <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->. I used to play that a lot before I got stuck into the computer games. Not that I was any good. Used to play Advanced Dungeons and Dragons with dad; it'd be my job to shoot things while he moved teh character, dodged baddies, etc.[/edit]

I'm pretty sure my first game was a Chuck Yaeger flight sim on our 486... Dunno when, but I can barely remember it. You had to input words from certain pages of the manual every time you booted it up. Ancient copyright protection technique. Of course we had a photocopied manual from my Dad's friend, but, meh.

First games I actually played a lot? Probably SMB or Zelda on the NES... The first system I owned was a PS1, the first game I was <i>really</i> into was either Final Fantasy 7 or Tactics. Those two kept me occupied for a looooong time.

Played Doom, Quake, and Quake II as we upgraded our computer slowly through the years. I think I really started getting into muliplayer FPS games around the 1.0.0.9 patch for HL though, when TFC first was released.

<b>Edit:</b> Oh, and just so you know, my parents are still gaming even. My mom went out and bought an SNES and Mario/Zelda. Back in the day when SNES was new, my parents played on it probably equally as much as my two siblings and I did. Now when I pull into the driveway from school every afternoon, it's pretty much a given that my mom is sitting cross legged in front of the TV playing Mario. It's kinda weird, but cool.

Heh. I remember when games used to do that... and the Lucasarts ones had those code wheel thingies; the game asked you to match up a face (or whatever) and then enter the code it corresponded to.

The first game I remember playing is 'the sub game' on the Atari 2600 when I was 3, me and my dad or sister would play. I call it the sub game..because I could never remember what it was called (two subs, yellow and red/orange - maybe it was blue...can't rememmber) and you took turns blowing up crap under water).

There was also baseball, and boxing (which was really 2 Es fighting eachother, I didn't find out it was supposed to be boxing until we hooked up the atari again in '92). There was also space invaders, M*A*S*H and some weird game that takes place in a mall. We borrowed pitfall from my cousin a couple times too.

My parents also had Pong, but we never hooked that up.

[That's the earliest, if you wish to hear no more, feel free to stop reading - although, I'd like to think it's sortof interesting]

Well, this was until my parents got divorced, and eventually around 1991 my Dad wanted to buy me and my sister something, so we got an NES (despite the fact Sega was out...but had no games). We had fun with Duck Hunt and SMB1 for awhile, we'd buy a couple of games at Video Game Exchange every few months, so eventually we had about 40 games by 1994ish (never any more though). I had MegaMan 1 - 6 (actually MM5 and MM6 I did get after 1994, but that's all).

Eventually I got around to buying the Sega Genesis my cousin had been bugging me about back in 1991 (although, I wasn't really old enough to care...either time). This was 1993. It's one of my more liked memories:

Our family (my mom, sister and me) were sitting eating lunch, and I wanted to go play nintendo, when Mom told my sister to leave the table...well, I was sortof complacent so I just sat there for awhile before asking to be excused...but then when I went to my room there was a sega sitting on the floor. It was awesome, it was the middle of spring, not near Christmas or my birthday or anything. It was a special package, with Sonic 1, Sonic 2 and Evander Holyfields Real Deal Boxing (...yay?). I'd occasionally get some new games...Jurassic Park was one of the first games I got (and still have).

Eventually, around 1997 my Mom bought me an X'Eye (SegaCD + Genesis made by JVC). I never really had many games for it, but Dungeon Master 2 is right behind Jurassic Park for SNES as my favorite (no, never owned a SNES...I feel so deprived). There was also Jurassic Park and SonicCD (I was obsessed with Sonic, and that opening video was just awesome).

Later on, around 1998 I got my Playstation. I discovered the wonders that are Resident Evil (1-3...although, not all in 1998, obviously), FF7 and 8, Breath of Fire 3, and many other games (the most since the NES for me, tied with the Genesis).

Then came the Dreamcast around 2000, which I only have about 7 games for, and it bugged out about a year after I got it (sortof coaxed into getting it by the cousin who wanted me to get the Sega earlier). It's all good though, because I have Soul Calibur 2...the only fighting game I've ever liked (had Primal Rage and Eternal Champions on the Sega for some reason though - both aren't fun).

Then I got my Xbox in 2001 (December 28th, actually, so you might as well count it as 2002)...or maybe my year is off, it was a month after the release either way. Halo + controller + xbox = best $400 ever. Although, you do feel a bit silly when you have a system with only one game...eventually that was remedied with some...fairly boring games, like Max Payne and Gauntlet:DL (which aren't really boring, they just weren't worth buying). Eventually the xbox swung around (and my cousin didn't prompt me on a console that died after I bought it, for once). KOTOR, Morrowind, Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon and some PS2 ports fill out the ranks now...

Which brings us to the PS2...I got one in 2003, around Spring...bought Vice City and Red Faction, eventually I sold it around September that year...not much happening with it (should have waited for the FFX stuff..but oh well, I got $120 for it and 2 games, which isn't bad since you get so little money for trade ins) - woulda been more with credit, but I needed to buy some new Xbox games <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> .

Which brings us to today...From Space Invaders to M*A*S*H, to Mario, to Sonic, to SonicCD to Crash Bandicoot - and a game I never finished, to Master Chief.

I hope to be getting Half-Life 2, Halo 2 and possibly Stalker (If I scrounge up the money) soon; but for the sake of simplicity, I've left out my computer based gaming exploits...that'd be anouther page of typing, and I have a geology exam to fail tomorrow.

My first contact with a videogame was a NES playing Mario Brothers, which was showcased in a mall when I was four (I think). My first owned game was a LCD racer affair I got when I was five; I got myself a Gameboy by investing pretty much everything I had saved up to that point shortly after my sixth birthday.
I can remember my mother saying "Well, it'll wear off in a year or two.". She was right. Only three years later, I got myself a SNES <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Oh er....

    Lemme seeeeeeeeeee:

Sticky Bear? 1984, parents said I played this on the Mac or something. I was 2!
Some soldier game, where each soldier was a letter and you typed commands such as move east 40 feet and the screen would update.
Treasure hunt or something where you went into a castle and had to answer maths questions/sums to get gold silver etc.
Gato Attack Sub must of been around 87-88
Orel Hershisers(SP?) Strike Zone: 88 or so
Tapper (Pouring Steiners of b33r for underage looking people before they get to you)
Super Star Soccer 88 or 89 I think.
    OMG just remembered ARCTIC FOX!

Anyway first gaming machine I can remember was a 8086 4MHz? CGA 4 colours with screen that reversed colours black=white when it had burned into your retina.

1988 or 89 Paps got a 286 16MHz? and a decent colour monitor that still works now!

    Mechwarrior 1
    M1 Tank Platoon
Only ones I can really remember playing on that

6 months or a year before Pentiums came out got a 486 DX50 and 8MBs RAM!!!!
'95 Got a Pentium 133 32MB RAM Matrox Millenium 4mb windows ram GC
    '96 or 97 Got a Cyrix 200MHz
    Early '98 I think got an AMD k6/2 450 64MB RAM ATI RAGE 4mb
Got current one in October 02....need another upgrade!
