<b>Natural Selection: Alternate Rules</b>

To summarise, NSAR is normal NS with the removal of player vs. player combat. That's right, you are not allowed under any circumstances to attack another player with your weapons (including parasite, stomp and other ‘passive’ weapons). At all. No, seriously, stop it. You must instead limit combat to structure vs. structure, structure vs. player, and player vs. structure. If you see a tf going up, you must attack the factory, not the marines building it!

This game type is for fun with small numbers of players – don’t expect balance, or total co-operation on large servers.

<b>Full Rules:</b><ul><li>You must actively avoid killing other players with weapons. No ‘well you stood in the way of the OC’ nonsense. If you can’t hit a structure because there are marines or gorges standing all around it – tough. They are the ones not doing anything useful. Be especially careful around PGs and IPs.</li><li>Similarly to point one, don’t deliberately stand in player’s way.</li><li>Xeno and GL must only be used when you are sure no players will be hurt. Failing that, give good warning. Sieges however are acceptable.</li><li>Welders and healspray can be used within reason to repair structures under attack, even if there is a slight risk of hitting other players.</li><li>Mines and Web can be used or banned depending on the players' choice.</li><li>Other than that, this is normal classic NS.</li></ul>Feedback, please! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Hehe, sounds fun... though it would take an ungodly amount of time to kill a CC with OC's while the marines are welding it. I think you should forbid healing/welding as well.

    Uh-uh: Players vs. buildings is fine, remeber? <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo--> Just evolve to Onos - it isn't likely that the rines will block the CC if the game has got that far with sportsmanship.

    Yeah but... one guy that doesn't cooperate messes up the game... it may work with a metamod server plugin, if you'll find players that would like to try your rules...

    If some one could rite a metamod progie that would remove dmg to players from everytihng exept:
    worldspawn
    trigger hurt
    Turrets
    Sieges
    OCs

    But what stops 16 rines from rushing a hive at game start? I doubt 8 ocs would counter it.

    so how does this work? A few onos walks into a base with 50 turrets and starts killing them while the marines watch? Or a few heavy armors slowly move their way to the hive, killing the ocs, as the gorges desperately try to heal the ocs but eventually the marines will win?

    I'd think that allowing sieges to do their normal damage to players is dirty pool.

    16 vs 16, and i got 8 oc because that is the area maximum. Well it dont really matter, 8 marines would do the job. Imagine, a shotty rush with only oc resistance.

    NS should never be played 16 vs. 16. That goes for classic, combat (although it could work for combat, maybe), and this variation.

    All the marines would have to do is build a turret factory, some turrets in the beginning game, an armory to drop some shotguns, and then all rush the hive. Under concentrated fire by light machine guns and shotguns, a hive would stand no chance.

    Marines could always relocate next to the hive. Start with a tf at either entrance, then get turrets up. Once there are about 8 turrets up, drop a CC and then some ip's. Rush in, destroy any oc's/dc's the aliens manage to get up, then take out the hive. Add turrets to your base as necessary. If aliens don't notice right away, they don't really have a chance at stopping you.

    Like I said, this is only a fun variation. It can never be competetive!
