milkshape is very good, but you have to register after 30 days.

Discreet, makers of 3D Studio Max, offer a free version called GMax. It doesn't do renders and to my knowledge doesn't support plugins, but is otherwise fully functional.

I believe the makers of Maya also have a free version of their program, but I forget what its restrictions are.

As people have said, Milkshape is a $30 registration after 30 days. In my opinion, it's well worth the expense.

Maya is awesome.I had a friend who let me work on his comp for a couple days, i just did the tut but it was awesome. Only prob is it's very expensive. As for the free one, it's restrictions are that on every render it has a stupid colormark and the most annoying/restricting thing ever...NO SAVING!! (or exporting..blah blah blah)

Other than that maya is awesome..

Milkshape and GMax are probably the best of the "cheapies". I've tried both and milkshape seems to have a lower learning curve.

    what does xsi feature?
  • Traken1Traken1 Join Date: 2004-02-22 Member: 26807Members
xsi features everything. If you've ever used maya it's like sorta like that. Only prob i have with it, other than not knowing how to use it, is that you can't run it in anything under 1280x1024. Other than that it has everything you need.
