Combat

Overplayed.
Combat Maps are massively overplayed. 85% of the servers use CO maps.

Combat mode IS very fun, but it is way too overplayed. It is hard to find a good, decently full NS map server.

CO maps have the power to make this a more amazing mod, but it also has the power to make it a mod like all others, not to mention boring.

Playing Co maps constantly gets tedious.

I would like the input from other NS players to give in their opinions.

NS:Combat = CS's de_dust

Currect:
co_* : 294
ns_* : 147

so your right about 70% of servers are running co , but its because its somthing new to play. Id say when 3.0 comes out proper and as more clans want to play NS in matches then the amount of ns_ maps will go up.

Untill then there is still loads of servers to chose from, and i for one enjoy playing both co and ns maps about the same.

PS: incause u want to play only ns_ maps there are 7 NS 2.0 servers still on steam.

It's cause in combat, you don't have to worry about losing your gear when you die.

Yeah that is something to consider. It's pretty annoying to lose everything because of a lame death, especially as an alien because the resources feel more personal to you.

Combat will die down eventually. It does get boring pretty fast.

A lot of people obviously don't think it's overplayed when they're playing it instead of Classic. There are plenty of Classic servers for you to play on.

combat gets old fast unless you're having a good day and owning. i hate the servers that only have like 8 players though, it's no fun until theres heaps of action....

Combat allows easy practice. Also, short games (theoretically). I'm still having much shorter games in Combat than Classic, which makes it great for quickies. Plus, if you join midgame, it's easier to catch up and shtuff.

i have found one situation where combat never gets old..

co_kestral
aliens
skulk
sneak into MS, hide in MS, parasite marines as they spawn
watch them whip around shooting into random corners
chuckle
(cloaking really helps)
it really pays off when your teammates rush, and then you get a lucky parasite kill
and it keeps your team aware of what the marines are doing

but yeah.. overall combat does get boring and repeditive

I think bigbull said it best

"I'm trying to overplay co so they get tired of it, like cs"

Then classic ns will make its comeback.

Let's look at the numbers, here:

After a quick search on STEAM we have:

446 servers total.
301 servers running combat.
145 servers running nsclassic.

HOWEVER...

Out of all the POPULATED servers, we have...

132 servers total.
69 servers running combat.
63 servers running nsclassic.

So in terms of servers running it, you're right. In terms of servers with people actually playing (As a lot of servers run CO maps if you're below a certain player level), it's about 50/50.

I personally find 2.0 classic much more fun than 3.0 classic is. So I play combat on 3.0 and 2.0 classic on WON whenever I want to. I occasionally play 3.0 classic.

It will even out later on...combat is very new in general, and it will take some time until folks will return to classic NS so...

Altho, as I said, it will take some time...first all the betas and the non-beta version has to come out

At least you are free of the same old DMS upgrade path when playing combat.
• BobTheJanitorBobTheJanitor Join Date: 2003-12-10 Member: 24228Members, NS1 Playtester
Yeah, instead in combat you've got a locked upgrade path for marines: Shotgun, JP, resupply. Then rambo the hive. Wee! I really wish there were a balanced way to get an OC or two in combat, but I honestly can't think of one.

Incorrect alot of servers run both in rotation and have nothing to do with playersize. As far as I know that feature never made it in. I think during playtesting they decided its not really the quick small player game they intended it to be.

I use combat to test out certain upgrade combinations and work on lifeforms. Not to mention just working on aim.

People will continue to play both. The core group of ns players will come back to regular while I've found a lot of the new players prefer combat and server hop until they can play it when maps change.

Very true, took about a week for initial excitement of Co to wear off, I still play it but would prefer normal ns now..

I like a game of combat before a game of ns, especially as a marine. It pumps me up with adreneline and I play better in the NS game (For a while, at least). I think my best was running through ayumi when the game started and getting about 14 skulk kills, building a hive lockdown by myself, building two nodes and eventually welding a couple vents shut before I ran out of bullets and died

Combat is the new kid on the block. Its something fresh and new, completely different from classic ns.

Give it a while, and combat will die down when the fresh feel wears off.
