Resupply In Combat

why so late?
i know i'm asking for a flame.... but why do so many people go for resupply so late in the game?

its not like i suck, and it obvious that i'm wrong, i do well with resupply first.

i like the fact that i don't have to hump the armory, and never run out of ammo. the medpacks also save me more than a few times per life. getting ammo is pretty risky with skulks rushing in, thats usually the first place i head when i get into ms.

i'm usually rambo/assault, rather than defense. my usual config is something like shotty/w3/a2/resupply

most of the time i get resupply first, even before armor 1. i just found it interesting that there's such a stark contrast in styles.

I usually get armor 1, then resupply. Armor 1 is guaranteed to give you an extra bite during the fight, which resupply doesn't do against focus or if the two bites are too fast for resupply to work. I then usually proceed to get HA, with a welder in there if/when it is needed. Then again, I spend more time defending and supporting, since my computer generally only gets about 10 fps during a fight (far too low to be effective, which is why I generally end up at about 2 kills, 15 deaths).

Config i've used in my (limited) Combat play:
Team Playa- Always there to lend a helping hand
Armor 1/Resupply/Welder/Armor 2/Armor 3/Weapons 1/Weapons 2/HMG

I like using that config when I'm supporting the team more then going for kills.... Armor is VERY important to marines in this version, and Resupply keeps you alive just that much longer. The welder is for the CC and armory and marines, i like to sit right behind all the action and welding those in need ("If your hit fall back a bit, i will be right there for ya"). You would be surpised how much longer people live when welded, its like they are fresh from spawning! I might get the welder before resupply if there are lerks about... those spores much armor for... lunch.

If no one on the whole team failed to do so, I would usually get scanner sweep (downgrade from the HMG to a shotty at the end and your good to go) Having a LMG for most of the game really doesn't bother me, i love the gun (especially considering i have a Black Pulse rifle model ^_^ ). ALso, I'm mostly behind all my teammates, all i do is just add on damage to the occasional baddy thats about to chomp good ole private NSPlayer's head off. I dont hesitate to fall back and form another human shield, meaning i not only keep MY buddies alive longer, but the aliens dont get XP from meh...

I almost always do weap1/shotgun/armor1/armor2/weap2/jp/welder/resupply

I dont really find resupply that useful except when ramboing near the end of the game. Usally if you get hit, your dead from focus, and you usally dont stay alive long enough to use your starting ammo +2-3 extra magazines.

Depends on how I'm doing. If all the aliens choose Focus, then I will switch A1 and W2 around

W1/W2/A1/A2/-/hmg or gl/-/JP

If I get a GL, I get resupply before JP, other wise I don't bother. Usually, I grab either scanner sweep or equipment as needed. Mines are up there for what I get. I have gotten many a kills in the begining from getting mines, laying them on stairs/vents and luring aliens into them. Nothing is more funny then luring that leet lerker across the room to your corner into a hell fire of SG/HMG and a mine placed behind me.

uhhhh I always get resupply last

At the beginning of the match your not going to live long

heck i dont think i ever go to the armory to get ammo

i just dont expect to be alive that long

I'd rather upgrade my weapon then get armor and then resupply

think about it...what good resupply going to do when you have a skulk rush coming at you?

resupply is great early on. focus is the obvious counter but not all aliens get focus. resup is great against spores and acid and the extra ammo means you can get onto the battlefield easier and dont have to waste time humping the armoury.

I allways take motion tracking first because then you see everything it has saved me sooo many times to see that skulk behind corner in roof.
My usual stats goes like this:

1. Motion it gives you so good view whats going on
2. Weap 1 you dont need that armor so much cos of mt
3. Weap 2 to get those skulks down quick
4. Now i take that armor that usual is in qutie soon cos of mt
5. Here i take scanner lets you see even those last you miss with MT
6. Armor 2 for this break because you will ses now fades/onos
7. armor3/Weap3 depending on situation.
8. resupply Im ok that i stay in base 5s longer than with it at beginning
9. Gun/jp/hmg
10. Gun/jp/hmg

Other than resupply, welder, and either scanner or a3
w1 shotty a1 w2 a2 w3

Any focus skulks I come across before I get to level 4 are pretty much paper anyways, and the shotty takes care of them. In beta 2 I prefer to get w3a3 over HA or jetpacks, because a2 HA doesn't give you much more life (and puts you shorter on offense) while making you a target, and there isn't much challenge in using jp in combat this beta

welder, resupply, and often enough scanner get inserted as needed.

I guess if I wanted to be mean I'd w1 shotty a1 a2 jp resupply gl w2

Getting resupply early doesn't help much, as half the other team will have focus within a few levels. As long as you keep your armory alive, it's a perfectly good poor man's resupply anyway.

Resupply is too easily countered by focus. Early on, Focus is a game-changing force. Luckily, Armor 1 is the counter to Focus early in the game, and that's what I usually get as my upgrade.

Early Route 1 - Focus Counter:
1) Armor 1 - Protects from 1-bite-kill Focus
2) Weapon 1 - on my way to shotty
3) Shotty - Good against skulks, armor protects me easily

The upside of this early route is that I'm able to effectively counter Focus without too much trouble. Armor 1 keeps me alive a bit longer so I can get the kills needed to aquire that Shotty.

Early Route 2 - Fast HMG
1) Weapon 1 - on my way to shotty
2) Shotty - Now I'm ready to earn experience quickly
3) HMG - By now, the experience is rolling in quickly
4) Armor 1 - finally, some protection against Focus, and on my way to JP or HA

This route works well against aliens who are reluctant to get focus... usually saving for Onos or Fade or Xenocide. By level 3, I have shotty, and can down skulks easily... usually just 3 or 4 kills, and I have my HMG. And once I get the HMG, skulks are nothing but fodder.

After either of those routes, it becomes a choice as to whether I should get JP or HA.

I typically don't get resupply til later in the game. Mainly because resupply only protects you, health wise, against non-focused skulks/lerks. As for providing ammo, that's really only useful with the GL or Shotty. If you get the GL, you NEED resupply. You start with full ammo with the HMG, so you don't need resupply with that... and early in the game, your armory is always still alive, so you give it a quick 2-second hump when you have LMG, and you're good to go... again, no need for resupply.

Resupply is almost always my first upgrade. My first four upgrades are conditional. Basically I go A1, Resupply, W1, Shotgun. However, the thing with armor 1 is that if you have no armor, you should wait until you respawn to upgrade it. The reason is that it doesn't give you the extra 20 armor unless you have some armor to tack it on to. And since 1 bite wipes out armor, i usually find myself without any armor by the time I get a level. So I get resupply. Then, if I don't die, i get w1 and shotgun, but if i do die, i get armor 1 next.

I don't understand why so many people get resupply later on in the game. It is much more useful right at the beginning, when you have the upper hand over the aliens. Here is why:

Marines push out, kill the few skulks that linger in the corridors, and then set up outside the alien hive. Now, the aliens will attempt to move out and kill you. Without resupply, you will run out of ammo at a certain point and get killed. With resupply, you can keep on shooting, not caring about your ammo (because you don't run out). In addition, until the aliens get focus your healthpacks will help you along quite nicely if any aliens get near you. By the time focus does arrive, you should have armor 1, weapons 1, and at least one more upgrade point to spend.

Combat setups (for me):

JP assault:
Armor 1
Weapons 1
Shotgun
Armor 2
JP
Weapons 2

Path one:
Weapons 3
Armor 3 (no need for resupply, shotgun ammo has enough)

Path two:
GL
resupply (need that nade ammo!)

HA Defense/support:
Armor 1
WEapons 1
Shotgun
Armor 2
Heavy Armor
HMG
Weapons 2*
Weapons 3*

*any of these may be substituted for a welder, or scan, if necessary. I may get either of these items at a sooner stage in order to help the team (in which case I will simply push everything back 1 step.)

Resupply is worthless for the most part, as once you are without armor you are as good as dead anyhow.
• LastLast Join Date: 2003-10-06 Member: 21463Members
resupply's useful w/ jetpacks, or just super marine (no ha, jp). w/ HA tho, I'd get catpacks. at the beginning, it's good to rush weapon 1 -> sg so you can start getting levels fast, then go up whatever tree you want .

Yeah I agree, once you have no armor you are pretty much dead. I've started to shy away from going the safe armor 1 or resupply way, and going more for power first, because I can usually do very well with a shotgun at the beginning. I don't bother getting resupply at all unless the armory goes down. I usually spend that level on a welder or more armor.
• Cartman2beCartman2be Join Date: 2003-09-21 Member: 21103Members
I agree with Forlorn *shudders* ;D

I find resupply quite worthless in game pretty much because of "My Combat Tree" which compromises as;

1. Level 1 Armor
2. Level 1 Weapons
3. Shotgun
4. Level 2 Armor
5. Motion Tracking
6. Level 2 Weapons
7. Level 3 Weapons
8. --- Keep It ---
9. Heavy Armor
10. HMG

For that tree, i do pretty damn good in Combat games.. And when i use resupply, i don't find a difference and see that its worthless. I guess people have preferences with what skills they use. Myself, i am not a good mine placer or brilliant with a grenade launcher. I infact suck with a GL. So in the end, people have different preferences to what they want to do. Work out yourself what you want to get and not what someone recommends

How are you running out of ammo? Either you have an hmg (which does have low cap, which is fine, but that's not really getting resupply early) or you're shooting your buddies and dead things alot. Or you just aren't using your pistol at range, but wasting bullets missing with your primary.

150/20 lmg/pistol in reserve will last you much longer than you will likely live in combat. If it isn't, you can hold more. Even with the shotty you can carry around 6 total clips.

I love mines too. Every mine early in the game is a kill and without any other upgrades I die often, that means I get more mines.

Personally I normally take (when I have listed multiple paths they are in my order of preference):
Weapons 1
Shotgun
HMG/GL
Armour 1
Weapons 2/Welder/Resupply
Armour 2
Heavy Armour
Welder/Resupply/Weapons 2

This is the method that normally either leaves me at the top of the scoreboard or close to it, so I'm happy with it, I tend to die a lot less than my fellow comrades because with my improved weaponry I can take down the aliens before they reach me and therefore have no need for resupply. I normally hunt aliens in the middle of the map (not camping, hunting, as in I run around killing the camping aliens), and don't bother going into the hive room unless there's a large group of us spontaneously forming near the hive.

Generally this leaves me with plenty of team mates nearby and will allow me a safe retreat back to my armoury when neccesary. Obviously my weakness is having the aliens destroy the armoury, but normally they either they have already destroyed it by the time I am level 6 or they aren't going to because there are enough welders around to keep everything healthy.

I like:

Weapons 1
Shotgun
HMG
Armor 1
Armor 2
HA
Catpack
Ping

Cap-packs are great with HA, allowing you to move faster than a turtle.

So far I've always gone
1.resupply
2. W1
3.Shottie
4.A1
5.A2
6.-save-
7.HA/JP depending on my mood
8.HMG
9.W2
10.MT

I should try some different strats, like early HMG or A1 first or something. I'll do that after I go to bed and get up later because it's 12:34 A.M. right now. I think that sentence made sence, but probbably not because I am currently slightly sleep deprived and my caffine just wore off a little bit ago. Gee, a run-on sentence, I never do those, I should get to bed good night, Why am I still typing? I'm not sure. NOw I'm talking to my self and my selling is starting to degrade I think and but I don't really care because.... OH GEEZ now it's 12:40 ok I'm too tired I don't care if this gets deleted because of my sleep derived stupidity. good noight.

I usually expect a good number of skulks to have focus, so I always take a1 before resupply. I don't use resupply for ammo, as I generally don't live long enough to use all the ammo I spawn with, unless I happen to be guarding base because it is being attacked constantly.
• Fro5tyFro5ty Join Date: 2003-09-26 Member: 21238Members, Constellation
The only thing I don't get is people's general hurry to get SGs or other weapons. I usually stay with LMG till I have lvl 2 a/w and then save 2 levels for my weapon of preference for the game. (Usually GL, I'm hard to kill in faceoff with a JP/GL/RESUP.) LMGS are easier to aim with, shoot ammo quickly and reload quickly, not to mention deal nearly the same amount of damage at level two as a lvl 1 HMG, or at least how it seems...

i like res supply. especially if i have a shotty and a jetpack. oh skulk atatcked me...50 HP? just fly some metres into the air and you have 100 again. Usually at clantrainings I take out my knife and try to kill the skulks in hand to hand combat.
its very fair cause i die as often at this game as the skulks do.
