Question Regarding Ns/ns2.wad

LuukasLuukas Join Date: 2004-01-03 Member: 25009Members
Is slight altering of the textures in those wads allowed? Say I'd want to re-hue one, or integrate a trim (or similar) to a ceiling/wall/floor texture so that I won't need to create separate brushes?

    You can if you use it JUST for NS.

    I don't mean to sound patronising, so if you're doing this already, ignore me, but after modifying them, make sure you save them to your own .wad file, since you can't redistribute ns/ns2 .wads with your map (for file size reasons really).

    Remember that custom textures increase your file size, especially if they are 256x256. It's not really a problem, but if the custom ones are only SLIGHTLY modified NS textures, I would try to go without.

    Here's another question regarding NS2.wad

    Can anyone show me a crane with "correct" application of this tex?
    This issue makes my head ache at night.

    This is nice ... a thread just for my question, now I dont have to start a whole new thread. Thank you guys <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Just one question. I needed some more infested textures for my map so I used some from the ns.wad and ns2.wad. All I did was use the original texture I use in my map "<a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=4&t=58601' target='_blank'>ns_achio</a>" and put an overlay on it with the infested textures from the <a href='http://files.redphive.org/NS-media-pack.zip' target='_blank'>NS-media-pack.zip</a> we all can download from the ns main site.

    My question to the creator(s) of the textures in question seen in the link below. Am I alowed to use them in my ns map? If you the creator do not want me to use these modified textures.
    I will <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> delete them immidiately... Hope you grant me this one wish <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    <span style='color:red'><b>Of course I do NOT want to or are alowed to take any credits for these wonderfull textures since I didnt make them and also the modifications are just copy paste work.</b></span>

    Really, you can do whatever you want with the NS contents if you use it in... NS. You're only not allowed if you are going to use it on other mods or... things that are not related to ns... you know what I mean.

    Mendasp speaks the truth.

    It's nice that some people really respect the work of the texture artists, though.

    And hey... someone should put this "can I edit the NS textures for my map" question in the FAQ. Well, I think I have seen it answered somewhere... but that somewhere was rather obscure, iirc.
