How Do You Play More 3rd Party Mods In Steam?

Only 1 fmod file is allowed...
My situation.
3rd party mods in the steam menu
NS 2.01
NS 3.0
Earth's Special Forces

I have the 3.0 fmod file in the steam\steam aps\name@email
\hl folder so I can play NS 3.0.

When I want to play 2.01 I just cut and past the 2.01 fmod into the hl folder and cut the 3.0 fmod into another folder for safe keeping.

I also want to be able to play ESF, but there has to be a better way of doing this without having to switch around Fmod files everytime you want to play another game in Steam that happens to be 3rd party.

Is Steam really that crappy that only 1 3rd party game is playable due to only 1 Fmod file being able to be placed in the HL folder? Please advise on solutions, that would allow for as many 3rd party games to be played as I deem willing to DL.

[Edit] I just realized that TS (The Specialists) isn't being played through steam for me. Maybe I have 2 HL copies on my comp, 1 in steam and 1 in the normal C:\Program Files\HL, i'll have to check. [/Edit]

Yes, Steam is probably so crappy. Surprised? Me not.

Only thing i can advice is making shortcut from steam to some game (and if you doen so, you can also send it to me, because my stupid Steam is unable to do that, says teh shortcut is probably already on teh desktop, even when i removed all shortcuts excpet this computer and such zerogreat@quick.cz thankyou) and then make batch file which will place in the right fmod.dll and last line will be what is in the shortcuts destination. And do this for every game.

Or make 2 batch files one "i want to play old mods.bat" or such and make them one for each fmod.dll, so before you will play NS 3.0 you will run "i want to play new mods.bat" (or whatever you name it) and so.

Well this is very upsetting to me. Steam isnt very good if it can't deal with different Fmod.dll's.

Whats the freaking Deal with Steam when it comes to 3rd party Mods?

Steam has nothing to do with it. The problem is that both mods are looking in the the HL directory for fmod.dll; the exact same problem would occur under the old WON layout.

So the guys at vavle didnt take into account that 3rd party mod ppl would use the fmod.dll file to hold info?

They should have made Steam seperate the files to prevent this from happening!

Every game should have its on file and the fmod.dll shouldn't run into these problems.

I don't think fmod.dll is a half life file, im fairly certain its an external dll to play mp3's
The problem comes from the new version of this file being shipped with Sven3, among others, the new version is not compatible with the old version..
All the mods use fmod.dll, NS simply hasnt bee updated for the new version
