Optimal Mouse Sensitivity?

Crunchy1Crunchy1 Join Date: 2003-08-11 Member: 19454Members
I've been playing NS ever since 1.04, and have been playing it on 11 mouse sensitivity. (Which is the same sensitivity level I use for DoD).

But thing is sometimes, especially as a skulk, I 'overturn' and miss my targets.

What is the optimal sensitivity for NS? (Btw: I use Microsoft Optical Mouse).

if you mean what the sensitivity is when NS is installed then its 3

I don't see how people can use these high sensitivities. For cs I used 2. For dod I used 3, and for ns I use 4. I guess it is just a matter of personal opinion, but I can't aim at targets with high sensitivity.

Keep in mind that you in-game sensitivity setting does not reflect your GROSS sensitivity setting. You have to factor in what your settings are in Windows too. In your "Mouse Properties" Dialog box, under the Tab "Pointer Options" the first Submenu "Pointer Speed" also determines how fast your mouse will move in-game. My suggestion is to see what your optimal Windows Pointer speed is, then post a graphical representation of where your selector is on the bar.

Mine is directly in the middle, medium mouse/pointer speed.

    Yours could be anywhere from

    to

    |-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-<>

Keep in mind their are 11 slots your selector could be on.

Mine is also square in the middle.

Thing is, I use 11 sensitivity for DoD, CS, and some other HL mods.

It just FEELS like NS needs to be played with a lower sensitivity for melee-attacking precision.

This question doesn't make any sense.
It's like asking "What are the right size of shoes?" There is no definitive answer, because the answer is: whatever suits you. Just mess around with the setting for a bit until you find something comfortable. Then use that.

    Happy fraggin

I use 17 in all Half-Life mods. My friend Matt uses 1.5. We both kick **** at Counter-Strike.

I agree with the previous person: it's whatever suits you better. I'm a twitchy sort of player, so I like to be able to instantly take a bead on something and blow it away. It makes fine precision a little more difficult, but for me, the advantages outweigh the drawbacks. Just find what suits you best.

I have mine up at around 14 for most games. It takes awhile to get used to but once you get it down, you can fly around the screen blasting enemies. There is no answer to the question though, whatever suits you best is best.

Technically, if you have really good precision aim, then getting a high in-game mouse sensitivity and a high windows/<insertrandomOS> mouse sensitivity will effectively make you a much better player than the guy with the opposite settings, as you will have lightning response time. OF course this is not easy to pull off.

It also depends highly on the kind of mouse you use. If you use a crappy mouse you will probably use a higher sensitivity than if you have a very precise one. It is all a matter of opinion. If you ask the top fps gamers, you will probably get a bunch of different answers. Just tweak your sensitivity untill you get it how you like it.

There is no such thing as the optimal mouse sensitivity, as it depends on your playing style. Therefore, if you're missing your attacks, just lower your sensitivity gradually until it's no longer a problem. Perhaps if you're used to high sensitivity with guns you could have two settings - one for kharaa and one for marine.

You play counterstrike on sensitivity 11?! Good luck getting those headshots...

For CS, I use a sensitivity ~2 (it's set to 4, but my windows sensitivity is 1/2 default), and NS I use about 6. If you're using default windows sense, then set it around 6 or 7, 11 is probably too high. most important thing is, fine your own groove. If you're passing the target too much or have trouble following targets, check if mouse acceleration is on.

Last, I can get hs with 20. I use to play ns with 25+ same with CS and DOD. Now i use 3.4

I use 17.5, works fine for me. I can't understand how people with low sensitivity play. I watched one play once, and like whenever he was gonna turn a corner it took like 5 seconds for him to look that way... (well, not exactly 5 seconds but it seemed like it )

Also, I like a high sensitivity, that way, I can turn quick and check all directions.

It does always seem like a long time if you play with high sensitivity, but some people are just used to it. It isn't really as much of a problem as it looks.
